The most important lesson from Judge Roy Moore's U.S. Senate loss to Doug Jones in Alabama is that the reliable red state is dead.
It died a slow, bloody death. And its murderers were Republicans.
In the days following Moore's loss, the predictable excuses from the right were resurrected:
"Voter fraud!"
"The media!"
"Mitch McConnell!"
Jones is a NeverTrump ally
Unlike a good bourbon, these rationalizations haven't aged well. Perhaps they played some part, and yes, Moore was a terrible candidate. At least Republicans didn't attribute Jones's victory to Vlad Putin or libelous dossiers chock-full of details akin more to pornography than to politics.
However, you can make excuses, or you can win elections you just can't do both. Alabama was the reddest of red states, and a Democrat got elected. Loath as I am to admit it, the win was big for the Democrats; even if he's a two-year rental, Jones could be a hindrance to the America First brand of politics ushered in by President Trump's stunning victory last year. Exacerbating the situation is the constant opposition to the president from a handful of fellow Republicans in the Senate, where the GOP majority is razor-thin. (I call these resistance RINOs Et Tu, Brute Republicans.)

Rich Logis? Who and what the heck is he?
And...why is he given a platform?
As someone who posts a lot of articles yourself you should realize that they are posted for a diverse audience, not just for you. I don't come in and make value judgments on your posts but perhaps you and others could come up with a rating system to control what we do.
We will pick up Senate seats next year and make the win in Al. irrelevant.
We will get AL back in 2020. I’m not convinced some voter fraud didn’t happen.
I also don’t like how these accusations are treated like facts before any hearings, indictments, or trial happens. Anyone can accuse anyone else of anything; it doesn’t make it true.
Yeah, and Republican Scott Brown won a special election to the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts during Obama's own first year in the White House.
What does that mean now? Nothing.
As long as we don't run people like Roy Moore. And Sharron Angle, Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Christine O'Donnell...
There's a lesson to be learned here somewhere.
sory, I agree the piece has no real informational value it is just an opinion piece from someone that is clued in on things about as much as everyone else.
I wouldn’t take it personally when someone criticizes an article I posted. Honestly, I would take it with a grain of salt, and at least consider the possibility that some of the criticism might be valid.
By the way, I agree: this author has no credibility, and is making too much out of what was an aberrant election in Alabama.
AL will never turn BLUE in an Presidential Election
Roy Moore was a known figure in AL & when he wins a race it is always very very close, by like 2-3 points
Now with a pedophilia accusation on him, he was bound to lose!!
WTF is this dingbat Author??
Yes, anyone can contribute to the American Thinker, I have a friend who has years ago, he is brilliant, although I am not sure how back search engines go these days so I can find it. He had no pedigree in political writing, but our conversations (and knowing his career) lead me to believe it was of high caliber.
I do appreciate the hard work and many posts you contribute to keep FR current with the latest news.
Indeed. Id rather Judge Moore sue Gloria Allred and her spawn; they pay women to make such accusations, and their purpose is fully political. He should also sue the media, which presented these stories as fact and interpreted them in such a way that Moore would come across as a pedophile.
The GO-Pee did everything they could to get swamp creature Luther Strange elected after he was appointed to Sessions’ seat in a corrupt deal with the corrupt governor.
And once that became impossible, the GO-Pee did everything they could to make sure that a DemocRAT got the seat.
That doesn’t make Alabama a blue state, or even a purple state.
Moore passed a lie detector test. I'm not sure how much credibility any readers want to give that, but it might be enough to anger a lot of the Republican voters who stayed home over those allegations, and encourage them to show up in 2018 and 2020.
Childish babble.
Moore bump
Gone are the days when AT was once a great resource for conservative issues.
They were the ones who, IIRC, were first to write about the details of the 0bama/Cloward-Pliven theory connection.
Not sure what happened to them (new ownership/editor??), but during the last election, they became extremely anti-conservative.
Author “has no pedigree”
Maybe like “game show host with a gruff demeanor” Mike Wallace who turned into a TV “investigative journalist” (set up interviewer for deceptive editing of 60 Minutes fake newsers).
