I'm not good at movie reviews and never claimed to be.
But I know what I like.
Vince Vaughn just proved himself a serious actor.
The first 15 or 20 minutes are a waste of time but once he is in prison, the fun begins.
The protagonist, Bradley Thomas (Vince Vaughn), is a reticent killer who is forced to do what he does best...break limps and crack skulls.
This is a cheap-ass film (it cost me $0.99 for 48 hours streaming at Amazon). That said, it is a first rate grindhouse drama.
And Vince Vaughn is now a serious actor.
On a more serious note, this film is excellent at character development (of the star Vince Vaughn). Great story telling and lots of justice of the bone cracking kind.
Whenever I hear about ‘bone cracking’ all I can think of is making French onion soup!
I love to cook, but I am a novice in the world of cooking.
That said, I won't quit. I am not a quitter...and certainly not in the kitchen.
It’s good to see a variation on how the story gets presented.
This doesn’t sound like my kind of movie at all, but I know several people who would be interested. People who enjoyed the SAW series or those fans of Tarrantino Films make like this one.
Ill take your word for it. They prefaced it as an artsy film, character development, etc. I saw none of that. However, truth be told, I am quite the movie snob. Wanna see a good movie, watch Maudie. Wonderful.
S O K
I’ll watch anything with Vince in it.
He’s a little like Jack Black.
Have to watch every other movie to get the good one but, worth it...
It starts very slowly...too slowly in my book. But then it gets good.

“Is that what makes French Onion Soup so damn good?”
Yes, it is!!!
Get beef bones from your butcher and if they’re whole then you have to crack them open.
Boil them in a large enough pot to cover the bones. That gets the marrow out. Strain the broth from the bones and matter.
I add beef drippings from a tri-tip roast and I also use a little Kitchen Bouquet to add color and spice. A little salt is good to add if needed.
Slice or mince the onions. Add the onions to the pot. Boil until the onions are soft. (About 15 - 20 minutes)
Put some sort of bread in the bottom of a bowl, put a white cheese on top, and ladle the soup into the bowl. This melts the cheese.
Serve.
You can do the fancy soup baking it in an oven but I’ve found it’s just a bit of culinary theater that doesn’t add to the flavor of the soup.
Thanks for the tip as I never heard of this film. The trailer on imdb.com looks very promising.
I think Jack Black has dramatic potential, but he needs to find a role soon or he will be out of the realm.
The broth is the foundation. Always.
School of Rock. Excellent.
good movie!! a little too violent for me though.
Thx Vic...will check it out and send it to my chef friends.
This movie is truly awful. Poorly acted, ridiculous choreographed fight scenes, and not even the slightest nod to realism. As bad as the Tarrantino Films were, or the Saw films, they are brilliant compared to this garbage film. Vince Vaughn has shown that he has no real range as an actor. He is the Dodgeball guy with a ridiculously fake accent, miscast as a tough guy, which he clearly isn’t, participating in fight scenes that are more choreographed than a West Side story brawl. And wait until you see the maximum security prison (if you can make it this far in the movie, without running away screaming): it is a cross between the dungeon of a middle ages castle, and a SJW vision of what the blackwater-run concentration camps would look like (assuming they were run out of a castle from 1100AD).
The two main questions I had during this movie were: 1) what in the world is Vince Vaughn’s accent supposed to be? and 2) is this a spoof? a black comedy? (please don’t tell me that it is neither)
What a scathing review!
“As choreographed as a West Side Story brawl.”
Good movie. Almost didn’t recognize Don Johnson.
Oh, yeah.
When I have time I’ll boil off about half the water to reduce the broth and concentrate the flavor.
THEN I’ll add the onions.
FYI: The best onions in the world are from Haun Packing in Weiser, Idaho.
These are the same onions that OreIda uses for making onion rings for the commercial market.
Halfway through it, very good! I like Vince Vaughn, didn’t recognize him at first. Thanks again.
I also thought he was miscast in Hacksaw Ridge, but he proved himself IMO.
He has the chops, and in real life he hates leftists, so there’s that, too.
