Nothing beats the Space Shuttle and its 245 missions. Designed in Downey and fired up in Chatsworth in the 1970’s. I know because my family was involved big time: wing designs, pilot training and sales promotions. Space Shuttle. Still the best machine... ever.
Late to the thread here, but this makes me nostalgic; VAFB 1984-2005. Best job I ever had.

Except for killing two crews, costing far too much, only being good for low-earth orbit, and generally side-tracking human space exploration for four decades, it was great.
