Saw it from Mesa, AZ, east of Phoenix. Been many years since I’ve caught one. Has to be launched near sunset so the setting sun’s light highlights the plume and trail. Pretty neat.

From Dana Point it was impressive.
Could see the booster separate and burn back to the landing barge.
After watching this on so many videos, an early Christmas present.

As if missile launches early evening were such a rare thing?
Were it possible, they would all be launched about this time. The setting sun catching the missile trail up in the outer region of the atmosphere is so cool.

...
They did a controlled landing in the water this time. No barge. It was the second and last use of this first stage. It was an older model.

I was in Calabasas, CA and filmed it from a parking lot.

In 1986, I saw a spectacular missile launch from Vandenberg while driving on Rte. 1 in Malibu. I pulled over to listen for any noise it might be making, but heard none.
Then I turned on the radio. I figured that if Vera Lynn's 1953 hit We'll Meet Again were playing, the missile was coming this way from the other side of the world. But Michael Jackson or one of the pop stars of the day was playing, so everything was all right.

Witnessed it from just west of Tucson. Great show!

I sometimes wonder if We’ll Meet Again will get a revival in our lifetimes. A poignant song from the very darkest days of a major war.

Here's the original version. The singer, who is still alive, turned 100 last March.

I saw it. Didn’t know what it was.
Looked like one of those pictures of a comet from the Middle Ages.
This is a good video of it.
