French police say a homeless man found a huge amount of cash last week at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport and was able to leave the complex with 300,000 euros ($354,000).

Two police officers, who are not allowed to speak publicly on the case, said Thursday that video surveillance showed the man looking in the trash and leaning against a nearby door.

How do the police know that amount of money was in the trash bin to be freely taken?

Hopefully he got away.

This begs the question: If you find ~$350,000 in cash in a bag...
...just how do you "get away" without tipping off the bad-guys, or even worse, the tax-man?

Keep it stuffed in the mattress, and slowly buy assets with cash?

From the article

Two police officers, who are not allowed to speak publicly on the case, said Thursday
that video surveillance showed the man looking in the trash and leaning against a nearby door.

Airport police union official Jean-Yann William Airport told France Info television
that “to his surprise, the door is opening, he’s entering and finds out there’s
huge amount of money” in the room of cash transport company Loomis.

Video then shows the man leaving the airport with two big bags.

Police recognized him as a homeless man living in the airport area.
He is being actively sought.

The article could have been better written. The homeless guy was picking through a trash bin, and in doing so, was leaning against a door. The door unexpectedly opened, and to his... luck(?), it was a door to a room owned by Loomis, a cash transportation company. Loomis had a bags of cash in the room, and that's what the homeless dude walked out with.

Sucks to be Loomis right now.

It was in the room next to the trash can and belonged to a cash transport company (armored car company?). I wonder why the door wasn't locked and alarmed.

Yes. Unfortunately, a homeless guy, unless he is a comic book homeless guy, will not parlay this into a new life of vigilantism and street justice.

Oh, to my non-law-enforcement mind, the homeless guy committed Grand Larceny, for sure. Probably not B&E, as the door was open and video evidence showed initial entrance was accidental.

You buy chips at a casino, play a little, cash in your chips, and report everything as winnings.

In the US, keep your cash transaction <$10K and in some states, <$5k. Banks are encouraged to report unusual activity also. Be careful the electronic trail you leave, should anyone care to look.

Ask Spitzer about that. It’s accumulated. In other words, if you make any deposits in your account, they will come after you.

The monetary amount is arbitrary. According to the government anybody with a bank account is a terrorist.
