Eight months after her arrest, Basinger is now taking responsibility for her son's death. Someone driving by the home spotted 3-year-old Landyn Melton on the front porch in sub-freezing temperatures. It was just 22 degrees at the time.
Prosecutors say his mother was asleep inside and later admitted to using meth two days earlier and marijuana the day before.
"She didn't hear him," said Assistant District Attorney Michelle Lippert. "She didn't hear him leave the room. Didn't hear him leave the house. Didn't hear him banging on the door. She was asleep while he was freezing to death."
Prosecutors say investigators found the toddler's prints on the outside of the door where they believe the 3-year-old tried to get back inside.

A drunk driver caused the death of one of my dearest friends.
So I have no use for booze, either.
Maybe if you watched people who chose to do whatever they want with their own bodies mangle the bodies of people you love, you’d not think my position so extreme.
That's just awful, of course!
However, the position of most conservatives is that Prohibition was a bad idea - that it, ultimately, restricted our freedoms, fostered govt. overreach, promoted corruption, and resulted in even more deaths than allowing people to do what they wanted with their own bodies.
Likewise, the War on Drugs is merely a form of Prohibition.

I’d be satisfied with a law, where, if you hit someone while stoned or drunk, they pull you out of the car and shoot you on the side of the road.
Just imagine that whole new motivation to stay sober at the wheel.
