Hey...that’s an idea. Let’s use the reason we’re going to Mars is to study climate change. Watch the libs jump on board!

Why? What a giant waste of taxpayer money. What will we learn? What economic military or strategic benefit would we realize?

Pay off the debt, cut unearned entitlements, toss out illegal aliens, cut regulation, reduce Fedgov size and redundancy, build a stronger military with the monies not wasted. Invest in jobs ( that have real economic impact).

I’d support a to and fro space launch vehicle that enables us to place important stuff into orbit etc, but the deep space quest is a waste of my resources.

Maybe NASA needs to go, give that role to the USAF/USN.

you missed my point...

The challenge was to select 6 dem’s you’d most like to see launched into space....never to return.

Yes, I agree that the economics of a manned flight to Mars are dubious.

10 X the cost of robots.

We’ve been in Antarctica for a century and there are few artists, musicians, factories, schools, city halls and hospitals there today.

You've blown your whole argument. Even my first cousin has visited Antarctica and handed out Bibles as a Gideon.

Virtual Tour - Life at the South Pole

It's not easy. It's actually similar to the environment that one would encounter in interplanetary travel, like if we go to Mars -- confined spaces, only a few people, and no way to "get away" by going outside because it's such a hostile environment. But, as people always do, they find ways to get the job done and have fun too. Having a rather substantial video library and collection of video games helps a lot.

H-3? Helium 3? For what purpose, fusion power?

It’s all still theory, but space travel with a scientific purpose rather than a one-way ticket seems much more productive until we can shed chemical propulsion and shield space travelers from hazards. Mars is just dumb...a flag-planting expedition with too-high costs of blood & treasure until a time when we can travel there in days.
