os Angeles (AFP) - The trailers have dropped, the frantic media tours have concluded and the phony war is over: "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" finally begins the real battle Saturday at its glittering world premiere.
Hotter than one of Yoda's root leaf curries, the movie is expected to cash in on 12 months of relentless hype with one of the biggest domestic opening weekends ever.
..........
"But it really resonates with what it is to follow your own human, dark, narcissistic tendencies, where that will take you."
Christie was joined at the event by returning stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domnhall Gleeson and Luke Skywalker himself -- Mark Hamill.
There were new faces too: Kelly Marie Tran as Resistance maintenance worker Rose Tico and Laura Dern, who plays Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo.

WTF I'm a super fan, and that makes no sense. Unless Yoda has a cookbook out and it's been canonized. Which is likely.
But furthermore, the last bit that I pasted in there: "There were new faces too: Kelly Marie Tran as Resistance maintenance worker Rose Tico and Laura Dern, who plays Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo."
Laura Dern is no "new face" so lets just get over that. But this Kelly Marie Tran as... Maintenance worker? Oh, this sounds like Mission Impossible's "Jingchu Zhang" given top, opening scene credit for her part that's 15 seconds long and has NO line.
This is how China does it: They inject their Chinese celebrity into the movie as well as modify the plot and script to reflect pro-chinese content. Then and only then can a movie be released in China to approximately double the revenue of the movie studio.
But to do this, it mustn't speak ill of Communism and is even encouraged to promote it. While promotion isn't mandatory yet, it will be. Movies must also contain and anti american theme - even if it's subliminal. (They LOVE to bash the Captain America character subliminally.)(We can even talk about how sublime the Black Widow story is in that series)
But I went to IMDB and look this Kelly Marie Tran up.
IMDB's listing for her is a San Diego native, with about 20 roles mostly as extras. She's "Best known for" College Humor skits where the last one she did in 2016 was "Periods aren't that gross" and she plays a token Asian.
How did this come to be ? Am I being too suspicious of China's role in American cinema ? Or is this too a really sublime attack from the CCP? She has had no roles, and she's no (at least known to us) Chinese star and she is as American as you can get. Well, I suppose as much as you can be without listening to any communist garbage spewing out of their mouth.
Anyone have any insight here ? This girl is being featured as headlining Star Wars cast for being .. a Maintenance worker ?!
Whether it is Dollar, Yuan, Yen or Euro.
Doesn't matter as long as they make it rain.
I’m really sorry to say the whole premise sucks. Snope is a ridiculous villain, and it’s been pointed out we went straight into a situation where the old characters’ lives were destroyed. We had no opportunity to see them enjoy their successes.
I got the plot ahead of time. It’s about this Queen that the people worship, she is seen as the savoir of the universe and of all humanity, and she is all about the women and children until this evil starship builder comes along and takes her power and all the children cry and then he takes away money from the federation of space warming and people scream how evil he is.
How are these people on IMDB writing reviews for it when it’s not even out yet? Unlesss this is hype from the studios?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527336/
I also do not get Daisy Ridley as the lead. Switch her out with the actress in Rogue One. That would be a New Hope. And Kylo Ren? Please. It seems their whole message is to blur good and evil.
There is exactly one thing that would save this franchise. Reveal that Luke or somebody secretly rescued Han Solo when he fell. Then there would be one forceful character back in this series.
I was thinking the same thing, the other day, about the female leads.. The gal in Rogue one is better than Daisy.
So we have a female lead, African lead. Which character is the homo/tranny?
so it’s made to make money in China ? Well it’s just a movie ,I’ll wait until it shows up on TV anyway
They did that back when they brought out the Anikin Skywalker Trilogy.
So if you are too old you can not join the Jedi, presumably because you are more likely to see though their mumbo-jumbo.
"There is fear in you." Yeah, like there is in every sentient being. It is part of being alive.
And the "no emotional ties" BS? Really?
The Jedi reminded me more of a brain washing cult then anything else.
Kelly Marie Tran is of Vietnamese descent - not Chinese.
She was included out of Political Correctness over race - not necessarily to Sinicize the Star Wars franchise.
“Kylo Ren” is the juxtaposition of the original kids: Han and Leia’s kids “Jaina, Jacen and Anakin”. Luke and Mara had a kid named “Ben”. They ruined the whole canon.
Both Daisy and Felicity are liver-lipped dingbats. This new breed of “actors” that basically roam around in front of a camera looking for their keys. Liv Tyler started that. Ever watch her act ? She’s just looking for her keys.
Oh, Fantastic ! You covered it all for me.
So I’m being paranoid, basically. And racist too I guess. But seriously - how is this hollywood nobody making headlines ?
And Chinese and Vietnamese aren’t exactly best buddies.
Kelly Marie Tran was born in San Diego, she isn’t a Chinese celebrity and she isn’t part of some Chinese conspiracy.
And her parents were refugees from Viet Nam (I presume after the fall of Saigon).
"My parents are both refugees from Vietnam, and they spent their whole lives working towards a reality where my sisters and I would have choice," Tran, 28, told the Daily News. "That was purely it. My parents never had the luxury of having a dream.
Doesnt sound like someone on the ChiCom payroll.
Angel’s Revenge had a character that was Vietnamese using a Japanese sword or some kind of mishmash.
