Gap in Highway 1 Overpass Is Nothing to Fear
KSBW ^

Posted on 12/02/2017 3:13:51 PM PST by nickcarraway

Caltrans says gap has existed since 1999

Caltrans says a 6 1/2 wide-inch gap leading up to the southbound Highway 1 overpass in Sand City is nothing to worry about.

Susanna Cruz with Caltrans tells KSBW Action News 8 that the gap was first noticed back in 1999. Since 1999 and 2015, it has grown 2 1/2 inches.

Caltrans says there is no threat to the structure or integrity of the highway and they will continue to monitor it.

The overpass is adjacent to a busy shopping center in Sand City where Target, Home Goods and other stores are located. Highway 1 is one of the main arteries on the Monterey Peninsula.

I think I’d find a different route that avoided that overpass. 8>)

“Correct. Near the immense dunes.”

I was there from January until August 1969. Basic plus AIT Infantry, plus more.

Was also there around age 13ish to stay with my uncle who was stationed there (27 year Army career,, post WWII Italy, Austria, Germany, multiple tours in Vietnam).

.
Susanna Cruz is right. These gaps are necessary, and they do change from time to time.

I guess everybody has forgotten the plate covering the 9” gap on an overpass in the Bay Bridge maze in Oakland.

Stuff moves.

Or a few dozen cans of Flex Seal. It will look like Caltran actually did something.

Jerry Moonbeam’s Hooterville to Pixley trolley is the problem.

Calif diverted massive amounts of highway maintenance and dam maintenance funds to the speedy choo-choo.

The spillway was a problem because the damage had been steadily growing, but it was ignored.

The overpass in Seaside is a non-issue.
