In the video below, members of the U.S. Military fire the M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun in various training exercises. The caption informs us, correctly, that the our boys in uniform have used the Ma Deuce in every war or conflict from WWII to the present day. TTAGs resident war hero Jon Wayne Taylor said the sound of a Ma Deuce in combat told him that everything was going to be alright. All right then, M2 Browning. Greatest machine gun ever?
And don't forget that improper head space can have you shouting, "Medic."
Headspace and timing...
Only thing better than the M2 is the GAU-8.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Innovative. Deadly. And served as our prototype for the M60.
Edit: Except for the crankfire I just found out about:

Son was Fire Control officer in Navy for 6 years, he’d bring me brass occasionally from everything from .50 to 20mm.....not in volume, just a single of each caliber......
He did this all day and got paid for it.
Got a Mechanical Engineering degree on GI Bill, finishing OCS now, has been selected for pilot school - his goal since 8 years old........
It’s great but it is moose to lug around. Definitely a vehicular mounted weapon.
Best Ever.
The Americans feared the German 88.
The Germans feared the American .50.
Audie Murphy. The Rat Patrol. Legendary.
It was on account of the exceptional range and devastating power of the M2/M3 that the US lagged behind the rest in developing cannon armament for jets.
A P-47 with eight fifties was a flying tank.
They droop a little when they get red hot.
MG42
Dzon Brovning very smart man. Maybe 12.7mm make good toothpick.
Semyon Vladimirov ees genius. He think, "12.7mm good, then 14.5mm better".
The MG42/8mm Mauser won’t first immobilize and then disassemble a thin-skinned vehicle. The Ma Deuce/.50 BMG will.
And in the right hands, a Ma Deuce will put one though the lower brain housing group of a VC from 2500 yards.
Without question. Used on the ground and in the air.
B-17 “Kill Zone.”
Thanks!
You got a point.
Is that Ruskie gun as mobile and versatile?
Master Sergeant Michael Arooth, 8th Division of the Army Air Force, 527th Bombardment Squadron Company, 379th Bombardment Group hold the best record of any gunner in Air Force history. He is officially credited with shooting down at least 17 enemy planes in 14 missions, though he probably downed more than 20.
SSgt Arooth's B-17, "Ol Gappy" flew more missions than any other B-17. In typical government fashion, the aircraft was abandoned to the bone yard and eventually scrapped.
Love T hose Photos...
Thanks!
