Two people were killed when a wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle along the 118 Freeway in Porter Ranch early Sunday, according to the CHP.
The California Highway Patrol began hearing reports of a car driving west along the eastbound carpool lane of traffic at a high-rate of speed about 12:25 a.m.
Stringer video captured the wrong-way driver along the 118 in San Fernando.
About 12:30 a.m. the wrong-way driver crashed head-on into another vehicle along the eastbound side of the highway near De Soto Avenue, according to the CHP log.
The vehicles, which were mangled in the crash, were blocking three lanes and traffic was halted in the area for the Los Angeles Fire Department to respond.
It is unknown why the driver, identified only as a 30-year-old man, was heading in the wrong direction. He was killed in the incident.

Something tells me alcohol may be involved. :/
Reminds me of a Cheech & Chong classic:
Cheech: "We drive 5 miles an hour, that way we don't attract attention"
California made it easier for illegals to get a drivers license. A big increase in accidents is the result.
Looks like what's left of a BMW here. Looks like the air bag deployed. Probably felt like hitting a wall in this case. I recall a case where the driver was ejected out the moon roof of a Porsche or at least his torso did. It was a violent roll over, rolling about 15 times after losing control in excess of 120mph.
These are Interstate Highways.
OK, you are following a logical fallacy. Just because the particular experience I mentioned was about a local street does not mean that the illegals in San Antonio did not do the same thing on the interstates.
Me on the phone with my wife: be careful, the radio just said a car is driving the wrong way on Highway 35.
My wife: not just one, hundreds of them!
I have no doubt that that was the case, still poor design in my mind that they can even get on an exit ramp by simply taking a right turn. Just my opinion. 8>)
Right you are.
But some people...
lol!
Weird.
I was on Netflix tonight and watched season 1, episode 1 of "Shot in the Dark"
Had never heard of a "stringer", but the show is about the highly competitive stringer world in L.A.
Was really interesting, they drive all night from emergency to emergency to get the shot and upload to a server local news affiliates pull from. Big money.
Surprised it took 14 posts to come to that conclusion..............
Sometimes you attract attention from police when you drive TOO carefully. They figure, why is this guy being so extra careful in our presence? Then they look for 'some' excuse to pull you over and check you out. I actually heard a cop on one those cop shows saying just that, or words to the effect.
Alcohol in almost all cases.
Believe it or not, at 12:25 a.m. LA freeways can be moderate and even heavy traffic..depending..
LOL!
holy moley.....
I considered that.
It was just after noon.
Not that people don’t drink before noon.
It was a vehicle in MN with Iowa plates.
We all get confused.
;-)
Cop friends have told me that if you've had a couple you should always drive five miles over the limit for that very reason.
They are everywhere. My wife’s nephew was killed by a wrong way driver on I-40 years ago, and I’ve seen people creeping the wrong way along interstates, and regular divided highways.
I hope they test for drugs
