What if it turns out to be a fake like these other two so-called "masterpieces" of his?

We have a few things in common. The bass and Harleys. We’ll have to compare notes one day. Freegards!

The painting was sold again in 1958 and then acquired in 2005, badly damaged and partly painted-over, by a consortium of art dealers who paid less than $10,000. The art dealers restored the painting and documented its authenticity as a work by Leonardo.

I think these art dealers were better at the touching up game. A markup from $10,000 to half-billion. That's some restoration job!

Is there some tax advantage? It is such a waste to pay that amount when you can buy a copy for $25 from a street corner seller. Plus it would come with a frame.

I really like the piece a lot as well. It gives me hope that the highest price ever paid for a piece of art was that of Christ. 27,000 people lined up around the world to see a painting of Jesus...every knee shall bend.

I read the owner was a Russian bagillionaire who paid 125 million for the painting.

He was suing the organization who sold it to him because he claimed they overcharged him.

Wonder what will happen to that lawsuit now?

“If “Eight Elvises” was worth 100 million in 2008, a genuine Da Vinci is worth 450.”

Did that Elvis pic actually sell for 100 million?

I just googled it. Yep!

Eye of the beholder etc. etc.

I believe that the three fingers together in the gesture represent the Holy Trinity, while the other two fingers together are meant to show the duality Christ’s divine and human natures. Could be wrong but this is what I learned in Art History class.

Of course, if you had $450 million to blow on a painting, you may not have made too many stupid decisions up to that point.

Looks like a guy in a dress to me. Modern times have ruined my ability to see it the way I might have in perhaps the 70’s. What a bummer.

I’ve never seen a Da Vinci with that hue of blue in that chromatic intensity. I would expect that from a Caravaggio who utilized light in most compositions, but not so much with Da Vinci, who often restricted himself to earth tones and sepia. But, then, Leonardo did so much work. Most successful artists try various approaches, i.e. Piccaso. Maybe it is his.

Ha! You’ll probably be able to buy that for less than a thousand off a muslim preparing to burn it in 10 or 15 years...
