Funny the ties between Tennessee and Florida coaches throughout the years, Doug Dickey coached at Tennessee before coming to Florida, then returned to Tennessee as AD. And of course Spurrier was from Johnson City.
Spurrier was recruited out of Johnson City where his Father was a Methodist Minister. Steve was born in Florida tho.
Dickey played at Florida also...
Tennessee and Florida have some really strong ties...
Tennessee wanted Spurrier, but had not switched from the single wing offense until just when Spurrier went to Florida...
I’m just 60 born in 1957 but I can say this. In the 1980’s I used to mow Neyland’s grass and rake leaves. {I’m having some fun with you all but technically true} LOL
Correct, Dickey grew up in Gainesville.
This has been fun, guys...I really hope we get a good coach out of all this...I’m gone...Good night, y’all...
“Orgeron and LSU have rebounded nicely since that loss to Troy State”
Mongo will be fired, just a matter of time.
In 1962 Florida played Penn State in the Gator Bowl. Penn State was 9-1 and disrespected Florida who was something like 6-4.
Ray Graves put Confederate Flags on the Florida helmets and Florida won.
As someone who is a college football fan, and an observer, I think what is going on in the SEC is interesting. Since the Nick Saban era, there is more pressure to win and win quick. IMO, Butch reached the limit of his capabilities as a coach. He will find work, but probably not at a major university with any kind of winning football culture.
