A coach who is the least congenial with the oress and public is shown the door...what took so long?
Rumors have Auburn coach Malzahn desiring to possibly take the Arkansas job.
What the hell do you want Gruden for? You need to get a younger coach who has already cut his teeth at least at one college stop and has had success building up the programs he has been at.
I dont know that I actually want Gruden, but thats who I expect to be the next coach.
If I could simply pick any coach, I think Id go with James Franklin. And he may be a bit of a risk because hes only been a head coach two seasons, but I might pick Mike Norvell second.
No one wants Jay, but thousands want his brother Jon. The talk goes back years because of his connections to the university. Hes a big name many believe could help generate excitement and resurrect the program.
Franklin was head coach at Vanderbilt for a few years...
My son just called and said that within an hour of Jones’ firing, Jones was on the phone telling recruits to look elsewhere...
What a POS.....
Very true and it's been going down hill ever since. Fulmer had the second best record in UT history second only to Neyland himself. Fulmer lived and breathed UT. He did a lot for the university in donations, he did a lot for his teams making sure they were actually educated, and the teams he built changed Neyland Stadium. The very least they could have done and the right thing was not to have fired a proven coach in mid season.
UT's AD has faced problem after problem due mainly to poor choices made by the pay grades above Coach. Part of the reason Jones has had problems keeping players is due to previous damage done in the past before he got there which destroys recruiting for many years to come. UT had a good coach within it's own ranks when Fulmer was fired and the man was passed over. They likely had several capable ones. That's how Fulmer became head coach. Fulmer would IMO have been the one UT should have recruited to take Hamiltons places as AD and yes if necessary begged.
Yes he was. Im from Tennessee. Have watched that program for about fifty years. If you can win at Vandy, you can coach. Hes got a swagger that Tennessee could really use. I think he could win big in Knoxville.
OK, I just kept seeing the name “Gruden”, and made an unwarranted conclusion.
I’m also from from Tennessee and a UT alum...I gotcha by about ten years following the Big Orange...LOL...
I remember watching Johnny Majors at tailback...
Tennessee has lost all six of its conference games this season, including five in a row.

Wouldn’t that be six in a row?
I can’t remember Johnny Majors playing but do recall him coaching. Actually I might remember him playing but if I do it is a very old distant memory.
I actually competed against Richmond Flowers in the hurdles.
I was 7 years old and Majors was my favorite player...
Flowers was a helluva hurdler....
A pretty fair football player too.
You remember before they closed in the north end of the stadium???
The old scoreboard on the hill behind the bleachers??
My dad proposed to my mom sitting on that hill watching a game in 1948....
He sure was...
Remember PennState and Paterno saying they were coming down and teaching “those hillbilly’s” how to play football???
Tennessee won something like 35-11 and Bobby Majors ran two interceptions back for TD’s...
Hope this violates his buyout.
Been off a cliff since Lan Kiffen.
Franklin was head coach at Vanderbilt for a number of years before taking the Penn State job.
