Khizr Khan has all this faux outrage, yet he would not ever consider himself anything but a Muslim first, and only incidentally allow his current residency to signal any other trait which he considers to be applicable. Never in his heart is he going to accept the ideals that make up that whole fabric of what we call “America”.
Possessing neither the virtues nor the critical thinking that is the mark of a truly concerned parent, he cannot in any way connect with the very real internal pain that tears at the heart, of the loss of a child you believed had been raised in your own image. Already estranged from his son for adopting the ways and manners of the alien land in which he found himself, Khizr Khan had divorced himself from deep attachment to his son, and like a raging tyrant that he is, attempts to use that modicum of moral capital that the status of Gold Star parent confers, not to elevate the memory of his son, but to support a political point.
And thus squanders it entirely.
