Calling all Freeper Motorheads! Have y'all ever owned a vehicle that you could just swear was possessed on some level? Was there some puzzling quirk that vexed you, and seemed to defeat every attempt to remedy? Let's talk vehicles that seemed to be possessed.

Had a 72 Charger that was NOT a morning person. It stalled at intersections if it was raining and in colder weather the brakes would freeze (in the early morning). I had to keep my foot on the brake and the accelerator to keep it running at stoplights on the way to work. In the winter, I had to pump the brakes for awhile before I could drive to work. It was fine any other time. I loved that car. It’s nickname was “Jaws”.

My ex-car and my ex-wife had that in common.

I think they call that ‘synchronicity’; and there’s supposed to be meaning in it beyond the obvious ‘coincidence’...

My first car was possessed by a benevolent soul. There were a few small incidents, but the one that convinced me was a big one.

My ex-husband was a lunatic. One evening he was driving down a narrow two lane road, and decided it was a good time to have an argument. The angrier he got, the faster he drove. The faster he drove, the more afraid I got. I was pleading for him to slow down, which only seemed to make him angrier. By the time he got up to about 120 mph, I was hysterical. I saw headlights up the road, and let out a blood curdling scream. Just then, the engine stopped. No sputtering. Just stopped, like someone had turned off the key. But no one had. The car quickly but smoothly glided to a stop, as though he was using the break. But he wasn’t. I looked down, and he was frantically pumping the accelerator. As the other car approached, he jerked the steering wheel to the left, but the car kept going straight, until it stopped. The other car sailed past us, and there we sat in the dark. He tried to restart the car, but got nothing. We had to have the car towed. By this time, he was more afraid than I was. He seemed to be tired of arguing.

It took the mechanic about a week to look it over. It started right up. He couldn’t find anything wrong with it. The engine never cut out like that again.

Mine seem to have a secret, wireless network connecting them: as soon as I start working on one -- all the others start acting up...

Or, perhaps, I'm the comm link: I tried hard -- and thought I had succeeded in ridding my self of language -- that I picked up while working on construction and in the military.

But whenever I crawl under -- or under the hood of -- any vehicle designed by US "auto engineers", It resurrects itself, and escapes -- with a vengeance -- wishing wrath and destruction upon all such so-called, "engineers".

Perhaps US-engineered vehicles are equipped with a "profanity detector"... '-)

Better that than Christine, or the Maximum Overdrive.

That 1980 Oldsmobile had a tail light that just never worked properly...

Was it in early that year? That would explain it.

Yes! I had an 85 Honda CRX back in my college days. Frequently on my drives home to Sherman, TX from Austin, that thing would start shaking badly and pulling very hard to the right. Made it very difficult to drive. It wouldn’t happen until I was almost there, so I would just muscle through it and hope that dad and I could fix it while I was there. But ... he’d take it out for a drive to try and see what I was talking about and it wouldn’t do a darn thing. Smooth as silk ... every. dang. time. This happened about 3 or 4 times. We never did figure it out ... and it never did it again. My brother ended up with the car and never once had the problem.

That thing was possessed.

The thing is, that the taillight issue ceased when my buddy sold the car to a mutual friend of ours.

Any Jaguar.

That's not a possession ... that's a feature. Lucas electronics explains any British car possession.

That scene is one of my favourite scenes. The banter during the chase through mall never fails to make me laugh.

I had a Chevy Astro Van that kept getting “Rear Ended”. I made sure the brake lights worked, was very cautious at stop signs and red lights, always checked the rear view mirrors when slowing down, etc, but I got rear-ended 6 times in two years.

I think it was haunted.

My dad's 1953 Desoto Sportsman was a reliable car so far as I remember but for one thing. It always stalled on the streetcar tracks more or less in front of Avignon Freres French Bakery in DC. Car was a tank otherwise, never stalled any where else, not in snow, heavy rains, even forded flooded roads. Just that one bakery. After the second time, he told my mother she'd have to take the streetcar if she needed to buy there.

Ours was a kight gray with block top.

I knew a guy whose car wouldn’t start whenever he was over at his girlfriend’s late, so he had to sleep over.

Funny in the morning it fired right up.
