Laura Dern Reveals Being Sexually Assaulted in Hollywood at Age 14

Veteran actress Laura Dern revealed Wednesday that she was sexually assaulted when she was 14-years-old.

Dern, now 50, appeared on The Ellen Show and explained that hearing other actresses at the Elle Women in Hollywood event speak out about abuse they’ve experienced helped her come to grips with a past she said she had “justified.”

“I woke up and I realized that in that space I talked about how I was one of the lucky ones because I was raised by actors who told me their stories and told me what to look out for, and I realized that I was I still justifying behavior,” said Dern, whose the daughter of Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd.

“And it was my mom who said, ‘No, no, no, Laura — that was sexual assault. That was harassment. That was assault. No, you were 14 then,'” the Jurassic Park star said.

The Big Little Lies actress applauded the industry-wide commission to tackle sexual harassment and “predators” that Lucasfilm president and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy suggested amid the swirling Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal.

Dern also praised the women who spoke out at the Elle event about the abuse they’ve endured in Hollywood and beyond.

one of the big problems with naming names after 30 years is that there cant be legal charges and saying anything can lead the person saying the name to court and lawsuits...the real place we need names are those who have been raped recently while you can still use the criminal justice system.

Yesterday it was Reese Witherspoon who said she was sexually assaulted by an unnamed director at age 16. This puts every director she worked with at that age period under suspicion and it's pretty easy to figure out who these men were by looking at her filmography.

Maybe this is naivete or wishful thinking, but I wonder if this onslaught of 3rd-wave feminist witch hunts which started with Weinstein and now seem to be spilling over everywhere will drive a lot of men to the conservative camp. Even the gay ones. No one will be able to work with these women, except defensively.

I had a co-worker in Orange, CA, who wanted to an actress. She had a nose job to straighten her nose, and was a pretty blond. The piece of equipment she operated had too large a lamp in it, causing the operator to get overly warm. She got permission to come to work in short-shorts.

When I deduced the problem with her equipment and installed the correct lamp, it caused a loss of morale among everybody.

Yeah, I fully believe in many cases the parents looked the other way as their children paid the "entrance fee" for the opportunity to earn millions. This is why the big Hollywood pedo story everyone is waiting for is never going to blow open. The parents aren't going to speak up.
