San Antonio Spurs Preach ‘Equality’ Over JumboTron During Pregame Ceremony
Real Clear Sports ^ | October 18, 2017 | Will Levith

Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs have doubled down on President Trump.

Just days after Popovich called the president a “soulless coward” for accusing former presidents of not calling families of fallen soldiers (a complete fabrication, it turns out), before yesterday’s home opener, the team played a video over its scoreboard calling for unity. It was played immediately after players stood for the national anthem, and while it played, players from both the Spurs and visiting Minnesota Timberwolves locked arms, per ESPN. (Former Spurs’ stars Tim Duncan and David Robinson were in attendance and also locked arms with players.)

Well they did stand. I guess it depends upon what is a ‘dignified posture’.

NBA Rules
...
(1) Each player when introduced, prior to the game, must be uniformly dressed.
(2) Players, coaches and trainers are to stand and line up in a dignified posture
along the sidelines or on the foul line during the playing of the National Anthem.
(3) Coaches and assistant coaches must wear a sport coat or suit coat.
(4) While playing, players must keep their uniform shirts tucked into their pants,
and no T-shirts are allowed.
(5) The only article bearing a commercial ‘logo’ which can be worn by players is their shoes.

Absolute “equality” requires the crushing of liberty.

You are preaching to the choir, C19. These folks are so stupid they don’t realize the magnitude of the phony image that they project. It is a complete waste of my time listening to these morons run their mouths.

So now the NBA wants to relegate itself to irrelevance too?

Protest on the unemployment line then, and see who gives a shit about you shooting yourselves in the foot.

Actually he may ... it is a gated community of course, and guarded better than the White House in DC. If one caught climbing the fence, you will be ‘interrogated’ by security guards that are NOT unencumbered with the R.O.E. that the SAPD is.

It is said of the residents that they are all sports figures or drug lords.

I wish them all the luck in the world at it. Professional sports get way too much credibility, attention and money in this country.

I’d like to see it gone and the stadiums leveled for parks.

Sounds like the NBA is lining up for its turn in the “do not engage” pit.

The NFL is effed forever. The NBA shall soon follow.

The African-American population in culturally suicidal. It’s mind boggling to watch an entire ethnic group make so many self destructive decisions in such a small period of time

Got that right. I'm Irish. We made better decisions. And we were hardly ever sober.

They want ‘real change’ but what exactly is it that they WANT or want to happen? How will we know when ‘it’ is achieved? It is like this goal without anyone defining it exactly...like basketball if you took the hoops away.

Preaching "equality" while perhaps 4 teams of 30 have a shot at the championship for years to come.

From the images of the crowd in Dallas, they must have had 70% of the seats filled, if that. Was listening to local sports talk this morning, the TV rating for the game was 1.9. That's because the Mavericks haven't won a playoff series in 6 years.

I'm sure the AAC will be full when the Warriors or Spurs play in Dallas, but I can't think of too many others.

I hope I'm around when the current TV contract with ESPN & TNT expires in 2021 or so. They won't be outbidding themselves next time around. Local/regional stations overpaid too. NBA won't go broke, but small market teams are in for a rough ride: the big stars are now divvying up which big market teams they want to play for.

Nobody wants to play in Dallas, so watch the Mavericks revert to a .500 club at best.

Politics and sports don’t mix.

Amen, we pay money for our tickets to go to a game or use the cable or satellite system we pay for to watch a game.

We do that to be entertained, not to be called stupid, racists and to be lectured at our expense.

Employees have no constitutional right to alienate a business’ customer base, damaging the business that employs both them and their co-workers, not to mention the owners who have taken the financial risks to create that business.

The Doctrine of Equality is Communist Doctrine.

When you put equality before freedom, you get neither equality nor freedom. When you put freedom before equality, you get a great deal of both. - - Milton Friedman.

I’m having fun watching the Spurs, who were the darlings of the NBA a few years ago on this forum, become personas non grata.

they want equality? Okay...then all NBA rosters will be 75% white, 12% black, and 13% a Hispanic and Asian mix.

Same goes for the NFL. That is true equality.
