Canadian man is suing an airline for serving sparkling wine instead of champagne on a flight.
Daniel Macduff flew from Quebec to the Cuban island resort of Cayo Coco on Sunwing Airlines which he says advertised a glass of champagne, The National Post reports.
The retired civil servant filed a lawsuit against the airline after he was served a cheaper alternative, not from the Champagne region in north-east France, on his return flight.
Sunwing argues that terms like champagne service and champagne vacations it uses in its marketing is not in specific reference to the type of drink served on board.
The airline now states on its website passengers will receive a welcome glass of sparkling wine during the flight

Give the man a $50 gift certificate for some champagne and be done.
How precious. Did Raul Castro give him wine and a peck on the cheek?
I hate these phony litigious bastages.
He will lose.
The USA (and thus USA based airlines) uses “champagne” as a very loose generic term for sparkling wines (actually the international term is brut).
The only other definition (the EU and others that have an international agreement) is sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France.
Since there is no formal definition, I see no way to prevail.
I take it back — this is Canadian and who know what the heck the Canuks will do.
Please read this far before telling me I am wrong.
Give him some of Fred Sanford’s champipple.
I hate airlines and their discriminatory service and seating and pricing. Then, there’s the nickel-and-diming ( American Ailines is awful ). Actually had an almost decent experience with Allegiant recently, Their new plane was very spacious, but they charge extra for everything - did appreciate the efficient boarding process, though ~ Allegiant boarded the back of the plane first, and if you had no carry-ons... wewere in the air lickety split ! Very Efficient.
I have a recollection of newly elected President R Reagan declaring ‘Ripple or Mad Dog or Sneaky Pete etc’ as an Import so EVERYONE could drink fancy drinks on Inauguration Day???
In the air, over the ocean, US laws don’t apply. Suit dismissed.
The airline he booked his flight on is known as ‘Canada’s low cost airline’s and this moron thought he would get champagne? Sorry, if I fly an airline that is billed as a low cost airline, I wouldn’t except high quality drinks.
Really starting to hate Canadians...
When I was young my dad drank The Champagne of Beers.
Now That I am a grownup I know that there is nothing champagne-y about that beer, and indeed it may not even be “beer: per se.
Canadians mostly suck, and it is mostly the younger ones.
Had a Canadian neighbor who was for gun control, but did not know why. All he knew was “guns bad! (said in caveman voice), and it was super easy to destroy his lame argument and make him STFU.
I almost felt sorry for him.
I fly back and forth from LAX to XNA, Bentonville AR, and always fly Allegiant. It’s the only airline that has a straight flight. If you buy your tickets in advance, and pay for everything in advance, it’s pretty easy to fly them. I don’t check bags and check in online. Bam! Done.
I’ve flown from Tulsa to Denver in the past. Once in Kansas air space all alcoholic beverages ceased being served till again in Colorado air space.
I live close to XNA in Western Benton County.
I have a cousin that lives in Siloam Springs and another in Locust Grove OK that I stay with. Pretty country.
