Some people who have been unconscious for a considerable time were later to have been found to have suffered from an undiagnosed brain infection. And they wake up when the body has successfully fought it off.
One teenager spent a decade in such a state.

Good for him. When he’s married those days are over.

One more comment. The fainting happens because the Autonomic System is supposed to pump blood to your head when you get out of a chair, for example, or out of bed and stand up. If it’s not working, then you go black. I really have no clue as to why they stay passed out for up to days at a time, though...that’s odd.

His first words upon awakening were, Alas! gentlemen, I am a poor, quiet man, a native of the place, and a loyal subject of the King, God bless him! That must have been his answer when someone asked him, "are you a Federalist or a Democrat?"

was the child simply asleep or was he unconscious?
Very unusual to “sleep” for 11 days.
Less unusual to be unconscious for 11 days.
It is very strange, indeed.

Probably unconscious is a better term...and certainly the case for the short episodes. But ‘sleeping’ without being able to be woken up for days seems pretty much the same.

He could have ingested something at the wedding. Maybe when he recovers they can ask him what he ate and drank there.

This was on our news last night and I noticed the boy’s eyes were out of alignment after he woke up as opposed to the videos and pictures they had of him before the coma. This would lead me to believe it’s something neurological.

Wow! That article is amazing I’ve never been in the position to decide whether or not to “pull the plug” on family because it was believed there was no hope. This news might provide more information to work with for people who will be faced with that choice in the future.
