[NFL] Owners fret over whether fans will make good on threats to flee [ed]
NBC Sports ^ | September 29, 2017 | Mike Florio

Football fans routinely do plenty of huffing and puffing, but they rarely blow the house down. This time around, the NFL worries about the house getting blown down. Every year, bad teams emerge and their fans (in most non-California instances) still support them. And even if any given season (or, in Cleveland, every given season) becomes lost, a reset to 0-0 is always less than four months away. For true fans, the tattoo on their soul is permanent, and disowning a favorite team is every bit as hard as disowning a child. But this thing could be different. A league that has openly pandered to the military and the flag (and, in turn, to those who would react favorably to pandering to the military and the flag) now finds itself caught between a movement that has, after 13 months of simmering, exploded into a full boil that threatens to hit the league where it hurts the most.

Message is getting through. Besides the declining ratings and ticket sales, the key moment might be when GB Packer fans gave a metaphorical middle finger to Aaron Rogers. #BoycottNFL

Some people have more money than brains. Hey dimwits, look at the ratings and attendance... they already are leaving.

It's not a threat to flee when your 'just not into her' anymore.

In other words ... its one thing to threaten your lover with 'I'm leaving if you don't change this or that'.

It's entirely another to just not be horny for her. This isn't a boycott, or a political statement. This is falling out of love.

The NFL is close to...if not already past, the “point of no return”. That’s when it’s further to go back, and than to complete your original journey.

They’ve “jumped the shark”, with no graceful, or successful way to get off without getting devoured.

It takes a lot of “atta boys”, to overcome one “oh shit”.

They are up against the ropes. You do not let up and back off punching until they go down!

The NFL suicided itself last week.

It could had salvaged it last Monday night, but instead the entire Cowboys team did the kneeling. That sent a very negative message to the country that gave them so much.

The NFL politicized the sport thanks to @sshole number one Roger Goodell.

It will never be the same again. Much like our country after September 11th, 2001.

Sure there will still be fans but overtime (10 years from now) they will slowly fade away.

I suspect they probably lost around 25% of their entire fan base, and I expect that to grow over time. This is because most of their fans were were conservatives. I would be willing to bet before Kaepernick that about 90% of Trump supporters watched the NFL. Well the NFL just pi$$ed off a good chunk of them and many veterans too. What they did last week was a slap in the face to the country that was so good to them.

I was born a Packers fan. I watched the Ice Bowl live on a black & white TV when I was a little boy. I suffered through all the lame years with Randy Wright, Lynn Dickey, Tony Mandarich, Charles White and other unmentionables.

I am done. I have a black sackcloth over my Packers themed mailbox.

Just looked for 9’ers and Raiders tix.

Pretty good prices less than 20 seats from the field.

Still not going, not watching either.

I will be at the rodeo in the Cow Palace though...

And then cheered as he threw for TDs

Be damned if I would cheer for somebody one who insinuated I was a racist and had to be made to feel a LITTLE uncomfortable

Yeah, I'm a former avid NFL watcher who gave up several years ago, well before the kneeling. For me it was a combination of thuggish players, bad reffing, dull game flow and CTE. I'm pretty amazed at how little I miss it.

The NFL put their organization into the hands of a half-wit son of a crypto-commie senator. As with every other issue he’s handled, I expect Goodell will run the NFL into the ditch on this kneeling hogwash. The owners deserve it.

Too bad they didn’t ‘fret’ over their players disrespecting the flag.

Don’t the owners have decent families to remind tgem of their moral compass when they get out of line?

The last bastion of the American political left's power is the main stream media.

The NFL has sold it's soul to this enclave of Marxist overlords.

The NFL of old based on team work, grit, and honor is long dead.

Today's NFL is more about brand marketing and individual talent showcasing than it is about heritage and sport.

The enemy of conservatism is the political left. I would suggest we offer them no ground.

I will not be watching their bread and circus.

I keep hearing commentators rave about the skill level of NFL players. When skill level is exalted over everything else, this is what happens.

We all go to high school football games and are much interested in the outcomes. Same with college. The athletes are not the best, but what we all appreciate and admire is how they play with heart and passion.

When we exalt athletes who play with heart, we won’t be
overly impressed with a skilled but vile athlete who gets down on all fours in the end zone and imitates a dog urinating to disrespect the president.

69 years as an Eagles fan

Listened on the radio in 48 and 49 when they won the NFL titles

Went to preseason camp at Hershey and Albright and PMC

Love of the Eagles has been ingrained in my DNA

But these last 2 weeks were the proverbial straw

Owner Tose has allowed Bleeping Malcom Jenkins to kneel for 2 seasons

And the rest of the league is just as bad

Its over

Me too. I only had a 'Skins cap and t-shirt, but the cap went to the dump. The t-shirt I used to clean the chain on one of my motorcycles. It's currently on the floor of the barn soaking up oil.

The NFL is dead to me.
