That unfortunate fact pretty much destroyed any happiness that comes with coming of age for a young man. What older people see as the time of life where you are enjoying getting to know ladies and making your way towards marriage was, for me and most my age, a nightmarish death march towards an end we weren’t sure we wanted anyway.
