Box Office Poison: Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘Mother!’ Crashes To Career Low $8M
Breitbart ^ | September 16, 2017 | John Nolte

Although the entertainment media will never admit it, will do everything in its sycophantic power to write all around it (see: Line, Dead), the chickens have finally come home to roost for Jennifer Lawrence’s hateful mouth. The once-bright superstar who could open even a poorly reviewed piece of low-budget horror-junk like House at the End of the Street to $12.2 million, has just hit a devastating career low (for a wide release), a humiliating $8 million opening for her latest, the critically-lauded, psychological horror-thriller Mother!

This is a catastrophe for Lawrence, one of Hollywood’s most stridently bigoted (former) stars. The Oscar-winner’s hateful attacks on Christians, conservatives, President Trump and his supporters have chipped away at her popularity going back to 2014, but no one expected this, expected anything close to $8 million, to single digits. At worst, Mother! was projected to squeak in at $12 million.

As the bootlicker media attempts to convince themselves that social justice warrior-Lawrence’s venomous attacks on the customers and their intelligence (The Princess of Pro-Science blamed Trump for two hurricanes) had nothing to do with this weekend’s career catastrophe, I want you to keep two words in mind…

“Crimson” and “Peak.”

Almost exactly two years ago, in October of 2015, a gothic horror film created by auteur Guillermo del Toro opened wide on 2,984 screens. With a 71% fresh rating from critics and a couple of respected but mid-level stars (Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam), Crimson Peak opened to $13 million.

Two years later, a gothic horror film created by auteur Darren Aronofsky opened wide on 2,368 screens. With a 70% fresh rating from critics and starring Oscar-winner and supposed superstar Jennifer Lawrence, along with Oscar-winner Javier Bardem and the long-established Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer, Mother! bottomed out with a pathetic $8 million.

I never saw the excitement about her.
Acting, similar to David Duchovny , that is lines reading.
Looks? ordinaire.
And now she opens her mouth and shows her brain to be lacking also.

Reminds me of “The Golden Compass”, which did so poorly that it pretty much killed any chances they would ever make sequels.

I rarely attend movies anymore, choosing instead to vote with my pocketbook. My passion for noir films keeps me home and entertained, with so many great old films to choose from. Occasionally I will watch a modern film for free on my computer.

After Hunger Games 2, she all started to go downhill from there.
The last X-men movie she was barely engaged.

The movie had a budget of 30 million, and you can tack on another 2-3 million for marketing and ancillary expenses.

Based upon Hollywood financial info they’ll have to clear about 65-70 million box office to break even.

NOT....GOING....TO....HAPPEN.

Not a good year for Paramount:

1. “Ghost In The Shell”: 60-80 million loss.

Panned by critics and movie goers as utter dreck....even the Japanese box office was abysmal. Margot Robbie should be counting her lucky stars for getting passed over for this role and doing “Suicide Squad” instead.

2. Transformers “The Last Knight”:

Worst one so far. Marginal profits and sub par box office in the US. Even the Chinese market backed away.

3. Star Trek:

It’s dead Jim

I wonder why the studios, producers, financial backers
of films don't tell these so called "super stars" to
to keep their mouths shut regarding political and social
issues? I mean they can put those sort of terms into
their contracts can't they?

I've seen reported that Jennifer Lawrence commands
twenty million dollars for a film.
You'd think the people making the film would
want to protect their considerable investment and not
have an errant political comment by their "super star"
trash that investment.

She’s like Miley Cyrus, but with T&A.
Just as annoying and vulgar.

...How soon until Ms Lawrence begins proclaiming on all the talk shows that the reason this steaming turd of a movie flopped was because of “misogyny...

It’s all the Macedonians’ fault.

Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem in the same movie? Gee, how can I possibly resist? [/s]

I do feel bad for Michelle Pfiefer and Ed Harris for being in this train wreck. I guess they need to pay the bills too.

If there is justice her day in the sun has ended but not before she got her sack full.

Even though she may become box office poison it will not stop her from grasping for the limelight. Her prerogative to do so and mine to ignore her.

Johnny Carson once said you reach a point of success when you have FU money. In other words you no longer have to do anything you don’t want to that the entertainment industry wants from you. I am pretty sure Jennifer reached that level some time ago but I don’t think Carson meant you turn on the public and say it.

Turner Movie Classics is constantly on in my home. They are showing noir films on Sunday mornings.

I watched the two-minute clip off YouTube. You have no idea what the movie is about from the two minutes. Each sequence appears to be some artsy landscape piece and no real dialog. My impression was that was just a 200-line script....some blocked moments with different actors....and some fake scare factor.

“I’ve never seen a movie with Jennifer Lawrence, so I have no idea about her - other than her politics suck. As they do for most actresses.”

The thing is, if your politics aren't extremely liberal you likely won't become a known actor or actress. Yes, there are some exceptions, but I would bet most of them kept their political views under wraps until they'd become established. Her best movie, in my opinion, was Silver Linings Playbook - which was an excellent and entertaining movie - among the few that Hollywood releases anymore.
