Man Dies After Bringing a BBQ Into His Tent at Music Festival

A 30-year-old man from Göttingen died on Sunday after bringing a barbecue inside his tent at the Nürburgring Olé music festival. The accident occurred after the man had brought the grill into his tent because he was cold, reported Bild newspaper.

But because the grill had not been completely put out, carbon monoxide poisoning cost the man his life.

Last seen alive shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, the festivalgoer was found at around 9:45am, at which time it was too late for rescue workers to save him.

Much easier than most people realize... I went to a number of people who died from carbon monoxide poisoning during my career as a firefighter. The saddest was a little girl who was sleeping in her friend's parents new cabin cruiser boat. They were coming home from a long day out on the water and had a tailwind that caused the exhaust from the engine to get sucked into the sleeping quarters. No one noticed the odor of exhaust and didn't realize that the kids had CO poisoning until they tried to wake them up. We were unable to revive the one little girl. It was very sad.

Oh wow, that is something I can imagine will never leave your brain, that is as horrific as it gets when it involves a kid, I’m so sorry, I can’t even imagine it. My cousin was a cop in New York city and actually a good friend of mine was for 2 years who went on to join the secret service. He was a combat vet for operation Desert storm and all it took was for him to witness one subway accident victim and he resigned and went to the secret service.

I did see a lot of really nasty and heart breaking stuff in 25 years. There is a cumulative stress that begins to wear on you after a while. You finally realize that a job that you once loved is not something you enjoy any more.

I always thought on days when the real action took place that it was a little like watching a movie only I was really there. I am not sure that it is really that much worse for you than someone who watches a whole lot of movies, documentaries and TV shows with awful scenes in them. Maybe the difference is that in shows they usually write in some type of ending that wraps thing up for people...

I usually do not think much about the very sad things that I saw.

Would a CO detector with a loud alarm have helped there? Every enclosed or semi-enclosed living space on a vessel should have one.

Yes a CO detector would most likely have saved the girl’s life. This happened over twenty years ago when they were not very common.
