They are prohibiting some truck traffic tomorrow, probably driving extra miles today.

What is this ‘pay phone’ thing, of which you speak?
At least in AB, as pay phones get smashed by vandals, they are not repaired nor replaced. The nearest WORKING pay phone from my residence is at least 2 miles and I live in an inner-city suburb in Calgary.

What will they all do then?
Train them to work in Amazon warehouses? Oh wait, those won't have any people either.
Work at Starbucks? No people there either.
Just send them all a government check like president Zuckerberg says.

I've read that this new facility will add 600 new 18 wheelers to the local highways.
This new center will also increase traffic through the Port Of Mobile by 11% annually.
Truckers are always chattering about road alerts on the CB radio. As a trucker, used to having a CB, I prefer to take one along when going on long trips in the personal vehicles. I keep the volume just high enough to hear it, but low enough that it doesn’t annoy the wife. And on those trips I usually only listen to it on the interstate freeways and toll roads.
Through the years the cb has saved me many hours of being stuck in backed up traffic. A fatality can shut down a road completely for hours.
And that's even better! Go Team! Get them all out of here!
There are a fair number of newbie trainees around here driving for J.B. Hunt, much more than usual, I don’t know why but they always seem to start out with that trucking company. You can tell by the hyper-cautious driving and frequently having to turn around in awkward places. Trucking in general is up but I wouldn’t say it’s back to pre-2008 levels yet.

Yes, driverless trunks can work in very limited applications...
At some point a driver will have to make driving decisions no GPS program can make...
No mention of the liability issue when a truck runs over 10 cars on a highway when the tech fails, which it will at some point...
I was out of gas for several minutes on I-69 south. You bet traffic was heavy this morning. Glad to get off the shoulder. We commented about it afterward how heavy it was.
One of the CSX main lines runs behind our farm.Lots of coal trains,oil trains,and heavy machinery on flat cars.We also see armored vehicles quite a bit.
Trucking is a great indicator of economic activity.
I had my own everyday indicators.
Service at the drive thru.
This is witnessed at the extremes.
When the general economy is in the S**ter, The quality of your service at the “Drive-Thru” goes up. When the economy is red hot, your service goes down.
This general observation has been interrupted by a long period of economic malaise where it shifted from the employee to the employer. That is changing.
In the past few months I’ve experienced some of the best service and competence going through the fast food drive-thru than I can recall.
This, IMHO, is an expression of Opportunity and renewed optimism that we haven’t seen for 20 years.
I can also say first hand the increase in coal barges on the Ohio river...like none over past 8 yrs to several per day now...as viewed from anywhere along Cincinnati banks...
Same on I-15 between St. George, UT and Las Vegas. Almost looks like road trains in some stretches. Many two- and three-trailer rigs.
My eldest is a RR engineer and is working flat out on the night shift - something he hasn’t done during the obama years.
