Stockholm (AFP) - Experts on Tuesday urged sightseers flocking to catch a glimpse of a rare white elk in Sweden to take care, warning that the animal could be dangerous.
Video footage of the animal posted online has gone viral in recent days, prompting people to head for the central Varmland region where it was spotted.
"Elks can get irritated,...and then they're dangerous," said Goran Ericsson, a professor of animal ecology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
"I would advise people to keep their distance," he told AFP. A typical elk weighed between 400 and 600 kilos (880 to 1,320 pounds), he pointed out.

In Sweden the word is älg. Pronounced elk (kind of).

I want one!
The white nationalist one, or the culturally acceptable ones that are brown?
Nice!
Yes, beautiful and impressive. Even the antlers look spray painted white. One almost suspects this is an albino animal.
Gives the black mooses something to hit on.
No realli! She was Karving her initials on the møøse with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian møvies: “The Høt Hands of an Oslo Dentist”, “Fillings of Passion”, “The Huge Mølars of Horst Nordfink”...
Shut up, little boy, or I’ll sicc Bullwinkle on you!
I’ve been looking for one of those toothbrushes. Got an address?
Yer pullin my yedda Olle?
It doesn’t even look real. But I know it is - having seen the video of this creature.
I live on a side of a mountain in the woods. One year going out to town came around a curve and had 2 Moose standing in the middle of the road.
He was HUGE so was she. Way bigger than my truck. He charged me I backed up...was on a blind curve so that was a challenge.
Was hitting my dog telling him to shut up. He came towards me I backed up....then I would move a bit forward because it looked like they were going to jump of the road....no then he came towards me again.. I just stopped.
They finally jumped off the road....guess where my camera was?.......yep on the table at home, forgot it.
This is the first year I haven’t seen a moose. Others have. Don’t see them as much anymore..dang shame. They love to eat the moss on the bottom of the creeks we have up here. They cannot see very well either, so no fast moves around them .
When I first moved up here had a moose charge my truck. Husband had a baby moose go after him for a bit. Have seen the babies up here, forget what they are called. They are usually twins up here.
It looks like something from a Japanese anime film.
