MSNBC’s Katy Tur reviewed President Trump‘s latest speech on Charlottesville, and she raised questions about the authenticity of the president’s scripted condemnation for the events of the last two days.
Tur spoke with David Jolly, Harold Ford, and Marc Morial, the latter of whom compared how long it took for Trump to condemn white supremacists and Ken Frazier. Jolly followed up by saying that even though Trump said everything properly today, his condemnation of white supremacists would’ve meant a lot more if it happened in his immediate response to the chaos, and without a script to read off of.
From there, Tur continued to explore how Trump read his speech off a teleprompter despite the fact that he railed against them throughout the 2016 election.
“This is a man who railed against the use of teleprompter repeatedly on the campaign trail,” Tur observed. “I found it notably that he had to read pretty carefully, these scripted words, and that this was not something he could speak extemporaneously about, that he could speak from the heart about.”
From there, Ford said that Trump will eventually face moments where he’ll need to call for national unity, and he’ll have to do it with greater compassion and spontaneity than he has expressed so far.
By the people like Tur get a position in the media with visibility they're completely invested in this path to ‘fame’, their heads are completely turned, and they think they're now VIPs. Then along comes Trump who calls them out and essentially tells them ‘not only are you not special, you're really bad at your jobs’. He's put a pin in their self-inflated egos, and they absolutely hate him for it.

When one’s words are routinely intentionally twisted by a hostile media, it makes sense to sometimes be careful to use words that are more difficult to misrepresent....but of course then they go after him for speaking too careful, taking a short break from going after him for being too reactionary on twitter.
These people are idiots, or they think we are.

Trump does both. He can speak with a teleprompter, he can speak without one. He can speak with one, and also make comments off script. Give me a break. The man is a master public speaker, and thinker. We’ve never, I mean never have had anyone like him in the presidency. Kennedy, was pretty good too, but still in the end, a pure politician.
Trump is his own man. He also watches out for us.
Does anyone on this forum believe for a minute that Jeb Bush or any of the others would be as effective this quickly? Would any of them, have asserted themselves in front of the whole world as he has? Would any of them, have walked out on the Paris accords? etc etc etc

Even Charles Krauthammer on Fox last night had to stoop to criticizing Trump for using a teleprompter for his statement - perhaps Trump knew he was going to be attacked for whatever he said, and wanted to be sure he got it as right as he could - this is pathetic and sickening......
