Former QVC Executive, 62, Sues Reality Show Matchmaker She paid $150,000 after She was Set [Trunc]

A former QVC executive filed a lawsuit on Thursday, against the matchmaking company she paid $150,000 to help her find a mate.

In the lawsuit, divorced mother-of-four Darlene Daggett said Kelleher International promised to hand pick her wealthy bachelors, with the goal of finding someone she could spend her retirement years with.

Instead, the 62-year-old former president of QVC's U.S. commerce, says she forked over six figures but ended up suffering a series of disastrous dates with men who were more than just unsuitable.

'Kelleher’s "highly screened" matches for Daggett included men who were married, mentally unstable, physically ill, pathological liars, serial Lotharios, stalkers, convicted felons, and men unwilling or unable to travel and/or the subject of professional sanctions,' Center City lawyer M. Kelly Tillery wrote in the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Philadelphia and obtained by Philly.com.

I’d probably sue, too-talk about false advertising...

But that said, you’d think that a well off professional woman would know better than to trust a matchmaking service.

A friend and coworker of mine suggested I “take a look” at a matchmaking site-to humor him, I did-but a look was enough. The place was populated by guys looking for either a purse or a nurse, or stalkers I wasn’t about to even give my name to. I later found out my friend had gone to that site himself to find women-until his wife found out, that is...

I decided I’d stay peacefully without a man, but my Nemesis-the lover from college-still one fine macho cowboy-came around again and wouldn’t hear “no”-he sort of stalked me-called, texted me at work, left notes on the gate on his way from work, etc for weeks till I agreed to go to dinner-he’s now T5’sguy,-worked out fine, no matchmaking service-better the devil you know...

Instead of complaining, she ought to be thankful.

I don't know what she thought she'd get for only $150k.

Miracles are expensive.

The men should be suing.

She might have done better in church/synagogue.

Do what my aunt did. Go to the local senior center. Got a great companion and they went off to explore the world. She was a widow. He was a widower. We love him.

We have a friend who is pushing 70, now. For many years, she was widowed with 4 kids. She finally remarried about 10 years ago to a great widower.

She is a jewel of a person and had the good sense to wait and to ‘choose wisely’. We have several formerly widowed friends who have done likewise.

Romans 8:28 says, “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (NIV)

James 1:17 English Standard Version
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights...”

WOW I think you are in an alternate reality. This doesn’t seem to fit with the other comments on this thread.

Missing my point. When I say peer it’s in the context of her thinking she couldn’t find happiness below her economic level. I have a friend down here who was a very successful entrepreneur and she had two failed marriages. In both of them she tried to marry someone who was in the same financial position she was.

And no, she wasn’t bad looking, she was a former Miss Fitness USA winner!

I used to have long talks about her problems and pointed out that when you try to find someone else who is also wealthy you have the problem of who checks their ego at the door when the two of you have a disagreement? I told her she would be better off with the high school math teacher instead of the high powered lawyer.

That’s my point in this. This woman probably needs to really think through what is important to her and if spending a lot of money on a mate is the answer then she really doesn’t understand what’s important. You only spend that much money if you feel the need to find a PEER financially. At age 62 the kids are not likely much of an issue at this point, since I can’t see more than 1 or 2 not already done with college.

And trust me, with her corporate position this is more about chemistry than money.

Honestly, I think this woman would be quite attractive to a successful widower, in his 60s, who values success, maturity, and intelligence in a wife. At 62, her children are probably grown and unlikely to be a problem — more likely an asset. I am older than this woman and not nearly as successful but I have been luckier than she, I met a wonderful, very successful, man who was first attracted to me, in part because of my age. He wanted someone in his own age range to spend time with, to talk to, to do things with, someone who was young when he was young, not a child of 30 which he certainly could have had if that was what he wanted. I would say to that women, hang in there dear, there is someone out there for you, if you want it, and you will meet him when you least expect it, in a way you would not expect — not all men are jerks.

The woman is wealthy herself and a CEO. She doesn’t want to get mixed up with guys that just want her money.

A marriage made on Wall Street.
Quid pro quo involving two consenting adults.

I’m just a poor redneck woman-and I’m not a cougar-I have no interest in younger guys. Not many women out here are cougars, so I’m guessing not all rich women want to be cougars, either...

Wealthy bachelors are on the prowl for hot young 20-something trophy wives, not old wrinkled second hand mamas with grown children, grandkids likely and a team of lawyers. Sorry, Mrs. Daggett, but that’s just how it is.

At least they didn't send her any Irish.

I think so-we’ve had a few tiffs over the past, but we’re both real adults now, so we worked it out-and it is comfortable to be with one you are still compatible and familiar with.

I haven’t read the other comments, but I believe I reside in the same reality as you do. What doesn’t fit?
