Another one of those episodes where Holmes WAS the arbiter. That look on Watson’s face when Holmes let him go. He made the wrongdoer talk, and then he decided what to do with them. The major sin was not to confess to him. If you could ever trust someone to dispense justice, Holmes was the one you’d trust.

You’ve described it very well. Expressive emotions on their faces, a great treat. I’m not sure I could be so merciful. Holmes was, and Watson — God bless him — convinced Holmes to delay their feast, until the innocent was freed to enjoy his. Thank you for your post. Most appreciated!
