That cardboard box method is what we kids used mid-1960’s.

I think that’s pretty typical, when someone does something routine to exhaustion, for many hours.
Last week a fellow told us about picking and packing pears for a long time, and going to sleep and dreaming about pears, pears, pears.
He said that he has eaten very few pears, since that picking time :-)

I saw eclipses in 1970 and 1972. I had friends who stayed in D.C. “It’s 92%” they said. So “it wasn’t worth the trip.”
I told them the difference between 99% and totality was like night and day.
In 1970, we were on the beach. As totality approached, the breeze and the waves stopped.

You’re going to have a wonderful time watching that eclipse!
Grants Pass will only get an eclipse in the 90% range, I think.
There’s a few Freepers who live on the Oregon coast!
See ya’,

I’m still in the process of determining which logging road(s) I’m going to be on between the Cascades and the Blues. Will have both a 4WD and a dirtbike and plenty of supplies. Incidentally, just got back from Newport and north where I took a 12 YO who had never seen the ocean. Beautiful!

Correct that to: Cascades, Blues, and Wallowas.

I figured it was some kind of bizarre, mental ‘persistence of vision’.
Sure wish I had that box of fossils, still.
My mother ‘lost’ them after I moved out of the house.
Lots of shark teeth and such.

I think it is a ‘persistence’ - as a kid, it would happen to me if I’d been in the pool all day, or something like that.
(Is that the same place as Calvert Cliffs?)

Yes!
I would love to go back there someday but they probably don’t allow collecting anymore.
A couple days ago we rode to the C&O canal and there are signs up everywhere, warning of dire consequence if you remove even so much as a rock.

My friends used to take their kids fossil-hunting there.
