In this week's episode 3, Snow comments in passing, "I am not a Stark", meaning what, exactly?
So Snow thinks his father is Ned Stark, his mother unknown, making John half-brother to Sansa, Arya & Bran but in reality, his mother was Ned's sister Lyanna Stark and his father maybe Rhaegar Targaryen, making Jon half-brother to Daenerys!
This would seem to eliminate certain romantic possibilities, but then again, given how the Lannister siblings carry on in this story, maybe not so much?
What do people think?
Jahaerys Targaryen will sit on the Iron Throne.
I also liked the Red Witch's comment about fire and ice now being together. We are getting close to some big things being revealed.
Very close, but Jon is Dany’s nephew - not half-brother.
Jon’s father was Rhaegar Targaryen, and Rhaegar was the oldest son and heir of Aerys II (the Mad King). Rhaegar, Viserys, and Daenerys (Dany) were siblings, so that makes Dany and Jon aunt and nephew.
House Targaryen has often married brother to sister, in an effort to keep their bloodline pure. So, a romance between an aunt and nephew is not too far-fetched.
Jon said “I am not a Stark” just as the golden dragon, the Targaryen house sigil, loudly buzzed him on a flyby.
Incredible foreshadowing.
Jon Snow is not a “Stark”. He was not referring to his Targaryen ancestory - since he doesn’t know about that. He was referring to the fact that he is a bastard son and therefore has no claim on the Stark name. He’s in the same position in that regard that Ramsey Snow was in before he became Ramsey Bolton by royal edict.
What do people think?
The Targaryens were known for incest, it is supposedly why their offspring were either insane (the Mad King) or had strange powers (taming dragons, etc).
I seem to recall Cersei and Jaime justifying their relationship at some point early in the show or the books by saying "well the Targaryens did it".
I have a man crush on Euron. I hope he wins
I feel a little slow in coming to this awareness, but GRRM is having Danaerys’ invasion mimic Aegon the Conqueror’s invasion in many ways.
She starts at Dragonstone.
She has three dragons.
The major houses are (mostly) becoming extinct.
Baratheon
Martell
Lannister
Possibly Tully
Possibly Greyjoy
Possibly Arryn
Many of the Great Houses we have known were actually established by Aegon after he wiped out the older houses (Gardener, Durandon, etc.)
Dany is going to win but she will reset almost the entire chessboard in the process.
There was ... something about that gal who knocked on Cersei's bedroom door, interrupting Cersei & Jamie.
Should go a long way in restoring The Imp in at least Jamie's eyes.
Oh ho! Interesting!
I thought that Arya was heading back to Winterfell, but I could have been mistaken.
Another six days to the next GOT fix...
When has Jon Snow ever not brooded?
Remeber when Arya was sitting around the camp fire with the Kings Landing soldiers and one of they asked what she was going to do when she got to Kings Landing? Arya: I’m going to kill the queen. Long silence then they all laughed.
Killing the Lanaster girl with the lip poison was a really dumb and evil thing to do. Actions have consequences and this one had a doozy of one. Sad but somewhat predictable. If it wasn’t this way it would have simply been some other way that would torment/torture the person who killed Cerceis only daughter. Having to watch her daughter die then watch and smell her daughter’s corpse decompose right across from her with the torches being replace regularly was an extra level of revenge for sure.
By agreeing to marry Euron; Cercei indicated how important revenge on her only daughters killers were to her. She no longer has any children and the Dorn queen is responsible for taking the last and probably best kid she had. The two boys were either weak or crazy. A very special revenge was something Cercei dreamed about. I think this gave her some measure of closure.
That’s right. That scene last week where Arya met up with her old wolf got me in my head thinking she was headed north.
Cercei definitely has a cruel streak, but I still like her character better than Littlefinger.
That demand “you must submit, no equals as allies, but submit totally to me” is unreasonable.
“The previous 3-eyed raven passed the torch to me.”
Yeah, so simple even Hodor could understand.
If he successfully interacts/controls a dragon, it could raise him up a notch with Dany.
