I followed the trial pretty closely and later read a couple of books on it. Apparently, another major factor was that Garcetti, being the publicity whore that he is and having his office in LA, figured it would be much easier for him to get his mug in front of the cameras if the trial was held in LA.
ESPN can hire him as a color commentator for NFL games.

Not sure how parole works in Nevada, but typically you are drug tested and banned from going to bars.
First time he shows up in a nightclub, the pictures are all over the internet and he's back in the lockup.

Several of the most damning pieces of evidence, most notably the bloody black sock found on the white carpet, did not show up in the precollection photos of the place. They mysteriously appeared in the evidence list after Simpson gave the blood sample, but never showed up in the walk through. This would be the blood sample that had no valid chain of custody.
