This is a parole board, not a court. And based on the guidelines.... they made the right call.
Let’s not forget the cops doing a really bad job of chain of possession on multiple pieces of evidence. And Fuhrman’s complete inability to testify effectively. There’s a really amazing moment in the ESPN mega-documentary where Clark says that during Fuhrman’s grilling if she didn’t know for a fact he couldn’t have planted the evidence she wouldn’t have believed him. I was glad to be watching on DVR so I could stop and rewind that a couple of times because she basically says there was reasonable double and I needed to make sure I heard that right.

The evidence (even that presented by the prosecution)of OJ’s guilt was overwhelming to most people.

The forensic guy said that he removed the socks, and a cop on the scene said that the they saw the forensic guy remove the socks before the site was videotaped. While that may be shoddy, it indicates to me shoddiness, not a conspiracy.
By the way, it is my opinion that the prosecution was completely incompetent, and that was what lost the case, I do not subscribe to the theory that there was a conspiracy to frame OJ Simpson by detectives that went bad. Vincent Bugliosi, who even though a liberal jackwad was pretty sharp about those things, made clear with facts on hand that any notion of some conspiracy to frame Simpson was just stupid. But the prosecution let the defense do just that.
And the investigation team made plenty of mistakes, one of the most damaging was asking Fuhrman to go from the murder site to Simpson’s estate, even though it was done with no ill intent.
That case was entirely winnable on the evidence that was available even apart from DNA evidence, and there was a blood trail from the Bronco to the house, documented by the detectives on the scene LONG before OJ Simpson showed up at the house, and even longer before he had any blood drawn.
It was incompetence in varying degrees by the investigating team and prosecuting team (to a far greater degree) along with racist jury nullification that got Simpson off, not a conspiracy, and if the prosecution had had even a hint of competence, they would not have let the defense focus on the things they could poke holes in or that served to detract the attention of the jurors (such as the entire sidebar of Fuhrman as a evil racist) but should have instead hammered on the things that would have clearly convicted Simpson. But they didn’t, because they were incompetent.
There is no requirement for a conviction to have an airtight case (which is almost never possible) just as it is the defense’s job to plant reasonable doubt. The prosecution could have easily made the “reasonable doubt” into unreasonable, but were too incompetent to do so.
What’s that I see on the table? Are those fava beans and a nice Chianti?
Oh boy. OJ’s back. What a country. Hopefully, he is seen out of sight.
