WASHINGTON — D.C. police say that a robotics team from Burundi competing in the FIRST Global Challenge in D.C. is missing.

According to authorities, the six members of the team were last seen near Constitution Hall around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18.

The organizers for the competition said the adult mentor of the team was unable to find the group of six students. The organization’s president contacted police and filed the proper reports.

“Security of the students is of paramount importance to FIRST Global,” the organization said in a statement. “FIRST Global ensures that all students get to their dormitories after the daily competition by providing safe transportation to the students staying at Trinity Washington University who are always to be under close supervision of their adult mentor and are advised not to leave the premises unaccompanied by the mentor.”

They are either seeking asylum or seeking to blow something up.

No. I used to be a FIRST Robotics mentor. These are serious competitions with serious kids. Generally the international teams are there not only to compete but to represent their country.

Likely these kids have aspirations toward Engineering careers and have worked for years to earn their place in this competition.

In my teams case, we met year round and put in hundreds of hours in the weeks preceding competition. They are given the competition parameters and rules and have 6 weeks to design, build, test and often rebuild their robot. Lots of long nights.

In my son’s case, he parlayed that into acceptance in an aerospace engineering school with a good amount of scholarship money. He graduates next year.

I hope they are OK.

Or just hoping to not live in a sewer anymore and taking a shortcut to get there.

Given the fact that Burundi is 90% Christian and is very much a hellhole, the former is more likely than the latter.

My parent’s subscription to National Geographic during my childhood has left me with the impression that they’d be distinctly unimpressed, they’re hanging around all over the place back home.

Political correctness gone amuck. There is no need for an African “robotics team”. They should devote their efforts to fixing their own sh*thole country, maybe start with low hanging fruit like sanatation and public health.

Just send out a robot vacuum cleaner to look for them
- it`ll clean up D.C while it`s searching or them.

They probably just made a pilgrimage to the
site of the robot drowning to leave some flowers
and Transformer dolls.

Touching, the pathos.

It’s morbidly fascinating to watch the leftist hive mind at work. Had that been a human being, they’d be applauding it as “brave.” But, it’s a robot, so we get a maudlin impromptu shrine instead.

If these are good kids and smart, they will be seeking asylum.
