doesn’t the old “control userpasswords2” still work under Windows 10?

[[I’ll be buying a new Dell laptop with Windows10 soon,]]

You’ll wanna look up how to turn off —most— of the crap spyware nonsense they force on you- and you’ll need to go through the settings from time to time as windows has taken it upon themselves to reinstate the spyware when they do upgrades

We’re talking about security- but windows 10 ‘phones home’ info about your computer and your usage- would be nice if bit defender BLOCKED MS from doing this

“This is beyond a bad idea. The Windows login serves more than just local protection.”

Yes, but if you look at the instructions you see it only disables the LOCAL need for a password.

Yeah, that's pretty much my take on this also.

That includes me.

I have an SSD, and a software tool called DrivePool which is about a 10GB RAID over 3-4 disks I have for the PLEX server. I’m sure DrivePool has a Linux version but my son is also using this for recording, trying to get an EP out. Plus the college thing and paying for the damn MS Office for 5 computers. I only use it on 3 computers but the kids say they need it.

The writer is an idiot. Disabling the local password leaves your computer without password protection. Even though the password is local, it protects against a remote user from accessing the computer. NO CREDENTIALS = EASY ACCESS. If your computer connects to the internet you are a networked computer. The only reason to not use the windows login is if your computer doesn’t ever touch the internet and will be for local use only.

My computer is a older i5 and it doesn’t take anything like that. It’s a Mac, though.

A thousand thank yous. May you be blessed with an overnight stay by President and Mrs. Donald J. Trump. May your children unto the seventh generation be the staunchest of Conservatives. And may all Liberals within 25 miles be forcibly relocated.

Really, thanks for the link. Done, up and running.

a 1000 welcomes- may your socks never be wet and you eyes never crossed-

I absolutely hated windows 10 menus and look- I’d used classic shell for windows 7 so installed it on windows 10 and works just as good- makes it much better-

Use the pin and be done w/ it, so easy — and secure... I guess? Is there any reason NOT to use the pin?

How about disabling the Bitlocker password? Good? Bad? Even possible?

Possible, yes. Easy to describe in a short post, no. If you want Bitlocker to not require a user-entered boot password, you may be able to set up Bitlocker to work with a TPM that supplies the password automatically.

Or, there are other solutions. Here's a start:
