Windows 10 password disable... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

What could possibly go wrong?

While you’re at it, here’s how to reset your luggage combination to “1111,” and how to write your PIN number on your credit card so it doesn’t wear of right away again...

I’ve used this feature since Win8.1 - boot to desktop is very fast and typically 20-25 seconds from power on.

In Windows 7 you go to:
Start button> Run and type cmd or command and click ok
Type: netplwiz
Press the Enter button.

I use a password. I lock the computer down as I had a apartment manager come into my apartment looking for “water leaks” so they could rummage around. I was behind the door once when they tried to come in one day! They moved out.

W10 is the reason I let Ubuntu do most of the computer stuff at home.

My wife actually uses the guest account some when her ‘doze box wigs out.

How would installing Linux solve this? Is Linux free?

I’m new to Windows 10 and I can state absolutely that it is the worst version yet. I’ve been a Microsoft user since DOS 2.0. I’ve been through Windows versions. I’ve given up hope that Microsoft will ever change their habit of junking good products for bad.

If I had not just bought a new desktop, I would switch to Mac. I am so disgusted with Windows 10 from main screen which is so gaudy to the difficulty in finding anything that was on previous versions. And the most frustrating of all, is their insistence on using IP address to determine your home location - and not allowing a default edit! A pox on you, Microsoft.

“How about disabling the Bitlocker password? Good? Bad? Even possible?”

It shouldn’t be possible, since Bitlocker is their encryption method. I have it and like it. It means that if my computer gets stolen, and the bad guys remove the hard drive, they STILL will not get any data off it...whereas with only a Windows password, once the drive is out, its data is available for the world to see. The Windows password still has some value, though, as your network connections will go away once you remove the drive...but the contents of your hard drive are not protected.

So if you have any concern about losing your computer, be happy to have Bitlocker, and use it on portable storage too (thumb drives, external hard drives, etc.).

At least that’s my understanding of how it works...and one of my millennial kids tested it through a back door method for unencrypted drives, and couldn’t read any data.

And let’s not forget to write your login name and password on a post it note and stick it on your monitor. So, you know, you won’t forget it.

My pedestrian laptop, upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8, boots in 15 seconds, I enter a 4-digit PIN and I’m good to go. My wife’s laptop is the same, except it was upgraded from Windows 7. Windows 10 works great.

What’s the problem?

Linux is totally free. Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop is a winner. Move to an SSD (solid state drive) and you’ll be shocked at how much better performance gets.
