Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has added PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) as a payment method in the App Store, Apple Music, and iTunes, according to a blog post by PayPal COO Bill Ready.

The payment option starts today in Canada and Mexico with a U.S. rollout coming soon.

The PayPal payment option will show up under account settings and payment methods in a device logged into an existing Apple ID.

PayPal shares are up 3.58% premarket.

This is great news for PayPal - nearly a billion active iPhones out there.

So far as my own experience, PayPal is a fraud. I bought an item on E-Bay 7 months ago for $31. I paid for it with VISA. I keep my Visa paid off weekly and do not buy anything ever that requires any sort of time payments. The PayPal credit frame came up and I declined. The transaction was completed or so I thought. When the payment to paypal had not shown up on my screen by the time I received the order I called and after a long time got to talk to a clerk of some sort. I explained that I did not want credit and that she should take the balance out of the account immediately. She said that is not possible. I said I tendered payment in full and thought I had paid in full. My receipt did not mention any time payment. It listed the whole 31.00. I told her to take the money from my Visa within 24 hours or they would not get paid. The company had accepted my order then refused my payment but sent me the product anyway. I get a PP call daily and answer it once a week. If it is a different clerk I re-explain. Last week the clerk said something about damaging my credit. I explained that PP cannot hurt my credit and PP could whistle for the money. I said PP could probably get it out of my estate but I am pretty healthy and that would probably be a few years. The amount in 7 months that PP says I owe is $142. Needless to say I will not deal with EBay again or with any entity that requires me to use PayPal. Is this some kind of bait & switch? And I have got my VISA card number changed.

I agree with you. My experience wasn’t as bad as yours but bad enough. I will never use PayPal again.

I used paypal to sell on eBay forever ago. Didn’t like it much for that as they think the buyer is always right but......I use PayPal credit to buy online whenever I can. It’s easy, fast, and I’ve never had a problem. I used it a couple of months ago to purchase $2500 worth of plantation shutters from a major blind company. 6 months free from interest. I’ll use their money instead of mine. For smaller purchases I pay it off every month. Never any interest and never a problem. I’d rather use PayPal credit than a cc online. That way you never have to input personal info.

you’re wasting your time talking with paypal. call your CC company and tell them what happened and ask then to resolve it. generally the CC company will claw back any payments made from the card, and THAT will get PP’s attention.

I do most of my charitable giving via paypal and buy off and on from a few merchants.

Over the decade and change, I can think of two or three minor problems.

No money has gone out of my Visa Account. that’s not the problem. They refused to take my money in the first place and canceled my card when I told them I would not deal with them again (and I changed the number). I declined their credit scam and they stuck it to me anyway but they did not take out any payment because with the credit deal they wanted me to write checks each month. The company that sent me what I ordered apparently got their money from PP so PP cheated themselves out of the money. I asked the one who clamed to be the manager why on earth I would pile credit upon credit? and he just replayed the tape about how I had to send x dollars a month until the total was paid.

I’ve never had a problem in thousands of transactions with PayPal. They are not a “scam.” Paypal literally is a registered bank and credit issuer. They have the same teeth and bite as any bank or credit card issuer. . . In fact, PayPal is now one of the largest in the world. As such, they are heavily regulated.

I suggest you call them instead of waiting for them to call you and get to the bottom of these spurious charges before it DOES bite you in the ass. Like any large bank, they have attorneys in every jurisdiction on retainer to file suit for even small amounts. Ask to speak to a supervisor and keep at it, moving up the chain of supervisors, until you get the results you need. I would point out you did not sign any credit agreement with them (I’m assuming you did not.) as such long term agreements are usually reserved for purchases over $100. I’m also assuming you don’t have a personal PayPal account, but the seller did.

Are you saying you had a PayPal Visa creditcard? If so, that’s somewhat different than PayPal itself. That’s administered by Providian . . . They can be a problem. PayPal payment services and their online credit lines are not the same as that credit card. I thought you were talking about a third-party Visa card of your own. Big difference.

No. I have a Visa from my own credit union. If I had a PP Visa, changing the number wouldn’t accomplish anything useful.

I have called them. They are not interested in anything except monthly payments on an amount that is now almost 5 times the original. They pulled a bait and switch for what would seem to be an infinitesimal amount of money to them and chased off a customer in the process. If they had not worked their sleight of hand I would have bought quite a lot through PP since the that particular little piece of chicanery. I get what I am looking for on line but I get it from multiple sites instead of playing to the cheap scam that EBAY runs. Maybe I am part of an experiment to see if they can force all their customers on to Credit.

Hm. I’ve never had any issues with PP, though when they came out with the pay-later scheme, it was annoying. It’s not a monthly credit or anything, but they instituted a policy (PayPal payment on eBay purchases) where you don’t pay until you receive the item. So they would delay charging your card for a week or so

Amazon never takes the money out of my card until the day the item is delivered. Ebay/PayPal never did either. PP just insisted and still insist that I do time payments. I don’t buy anything with time payments. If they had tole me in the beginning that they would only accept monthly payments I would have said, sorry, and found what I wanted somewhere else. They instead gave me an option and when I declined the option they did it that way anyhow. I have never otherwise encountered a company that refused cash payment for a product or service in favor of monthlies.

Huh. I’ve never had that happen, the only monthly payments I’ve seen were the $10 credit if you got the credit card they offered with monthly payments. But any purchases were the stupid delayed charge thing until I finally figured out how to turn that off. Somewhere in their settings options.

A very odd experience, indeed. I have used PP Credit (formerly “Bill-Me-Later”). and am given the option of using that, my PayPal balance, my checking account, or a credit card on-file every time I purchase on eBay. I’ve only once had a snafu with that process - and it was because I rushed up and forgot to tick a different bubble for which funding source I wanted to use - so it came out of my checking account. Wasn’t a big deal, other than I didn’t figure it out until it actually came out of my checking unexpectedly.

But to use PayPal Credit - one has to “apply” - granted, it is a micro-application, but you do have a couple of additional data points to put in if you want to use it (the first time - after that, it is always available for purchase). They perform a quick “soft-pull” credit inquiry then approve said purchase on-the-fly.

So, it isn’t really likely one would use PP Credit on accident - at least not if you have never used it before.

I brielle you misunderstood his complaint - he said that PayPal opened a PP Credit account and billed that instead of his VISA, which he says he selected as his payment source. If that is the case, his VISA/bank will be of no help, as they were not part of the deal.

Because millions of people do that very thing... and PP Credit is an easy source of credit - even for those with less-than-perfect credit. And they do a "soft-pull" on your credit report, so it doesn't actually show up as an inquiry (which affects your credit score). They do not report to credit bureaus unless you are late (significantly) or actually default. PP Credit gives the option to pay your balance in full -

And as I posted previously - they cannot legally open a PP Credit account without you taking steps to do that, which includes entering a bit of additional information. It would be rather difficult to accidentally open a PP Credit account (though I will admit, it would be pretty easy to accidentally use an EXISTING PP Credit account).

What it comes down to - it will be extremely difficult to prove they opened said account without your knowledge or authorization - as both the law and their process requires some extra effort and agreement acknowledgment to open such an account. Second, you made a purchase and received said goods - you initiated the purchase, even if the payment method ultimately used was not your intention. You are legally responsible at least for the purchase amount.

PP Credit is an expensive avenue to finance stuff (interest rate, unless a promotional offer, is often 24.9%+). And they are pretty liberal at giving out accounts - but they don't do it without a consumer's knowledge or effort.
