General Robert E. Lee accepts the fact that his Army of Northern Virginia has suffered a major defeat by General George G. Meade and the Army of the Potomac. He orders his army to retreat out of Pennsylvania back into Virginia. On a happier note, also on this day, General U.S Grant accepts the surrender of the city of Vicksburg and of General John C. Pemberton's 29,500 man army. This is the second Confederate Army that has surrendered to General Grant. President Lincoln would make the statement that "the father of waters now flows unvexed to the sea."
I don’t mean to be picky, but shouldn’t it be 1863? Even though I’m a Canuck, lol
You’re only off by 100 years.
Sure took General Lee long enough! Geez...
The Doctor must have been involved somehow.....
my bad
Well, the guy was 156 years old at that point. Nobody scampers around like a pup at 156.
Gen Lee was an old man by then.
Whooped East and West. The best day for the Union Army.
I don’t remember much of that, I was only a small child at the time.
No doubt it was a good day for Abe Lincoln too.
The War of Southern Aggression came to an end with Gen. Lee groveling.
I was sooo prepared! ~
Doctor?
Doctor Jim Beam?
....and President Kennedy screwed another bimbo.
Doctor Who, probably the 2nd one Patrick Troughton.
It would kind of fit in with the War Games serial.
Frankly, I wasn’t paying attention back then and the only thing I remember from 1963 is JFK and SPHS.
Ah, yes, the Gettysburg Missile Crisis of ‘63. Remember it well.
Now yesterday’s article having Washington commanding the Northern Army was just ridiculous.
We Yanks aren't timid. There are still Southerners who are fighting the War Between The States.
Granny Clampett being just one example.
SPHS.....UHHH. You had syph?
