Years back I saw someone finally ask environmentalists about the impact that synthetic estrogens were having on fish & amphibian populations.

The reaction was “Yeah, it’s definitely having an effect, but there’s nothing we can do, we can’t ask people to give that up.”

Lightbulbs, toilets, foods, life-saving insecticides, but goodness no, not The Almighty Pill!!!!

A thought that just occurred to me...is part of the extreme divide between urban and rural in this country due to what’s in our water? It’d be an interesting hypothesis to test. Judging by the amphibian biota in my backyard, we are clean as a whistle up here. :)

If some species we really valued (pricey racehorses, pedigreed dogs) were as sexually disoriented and reproductively dysfunctional as the rising (human) generation, we'd be aghast.

"My God, what have we done! I can't get these Samoyeds to mate and breed! What the hell's in the water?!"

But since it's just our own miserable, confused kids -- and we're not willing to keep the xenoestrogens out of the water supply --- we prefer to view their pathological gender incoherence as a distinctive personal sense of style.

Don’t drink the water, take a bath or go swimming.
