To fully appreciate the money flowing into addiction treatment, consider the size of the bill Tara Richards ran up during a five-month attempt to achieve sobriety at a rehab center in San Clemente $416,050. --SNIP-- There are nonprofit treatment centers that cost $53,000 a month, while good senior care can cost $4,000 a month. Whats the other $49,000 paying for? asked Horvath. Its not like youre using an MRI or an X-ray machine. Its a bed, food and usually minimally-educated therapists. Im really confused. Wheres the money going? No one has been able to show me.

Twelve step just talks about the higher non specific power
Plenty of non Christians
Granted non Christian editors watered down Wilsons early visions
I’d have preferred they had not
Just google “non 12 step” and you will see hundreds of ads and links for such programs.
No way of telling, as long as they’re drinking they’re OK, it’s the cold turkey stop that kills them, and that can happen in 24 to 48 hours.
Bunch of programs out there but most operate off the same principles used in the 12 step program, just call it something different for sales purposes. Some people just have an aversion to anything that might remotely be considered Christian. Since God is mentioned in the Big Book they put it in the same category.
Even OAN did a piece on our county today on this.
I imagine that’s right!
Here is a previous thread on Naltrexone and other related anti-addiction drugs:

They do work on drugs besides alcohol, and probably on non-drug addictions too.
Freepers live to scold
It’s humorous to see some dismiss 12 steps and rehab out of hand when they have done neither
I’m here to tell folks from personal experience in real time living it right this very moment that they can and do help the addict and the loved ones if undertaken sincerely
Al Anon member 9 meetings and counting
Been there myself and have walked many others (Mostly Vet’s) through the steps and many of them are now doing the same thing. And so goes this thing of our’s.
One pill to keep from taking another pill, it’s the American way. Always read the disclaimers!
“Naltrexone can be prescribed by any health care provider who is licensed to prescribe medications. To reduce the risk of precipitated withdrawal, patients are warned to abstain from illegal opioids and opioid medication for a minimum of 7-10 days before starting naltrexone. If switching from methadone to naltrexone, the patient has to be completely withdrawn from the opioids.”
The hard core addict or alcoholic can’t abstain for 7-10 hours without putting themselves at risk medically. While this may help the drug or alcohol abuser it won’t help those that are dependent (addicted), that’s a whole different category. Even in their disclaimer they say do not take until the physical dependence is past.
90% of the time, disclaimers are CYA and can be ignored.
“”90% of the time, disclaimers are CYA and can be ignored.””
I suspect you missed the importance of what it said since you ignore disclaimers. I’ll help you out! It says you have to be off opiates for 7-10 days before even taking the drug.
Calling it a disease IS used as an excuse by MANY.
I admire what you have stated here, and what you are doing. :)
Do you believe everything you read?
Never mind! You don’t even know enough about this this drug or this subject to continue the conversation.
As usual, well said.
