I know.

That there was what you call a "joke."

You know...grab it by a part that practically isn't even there...?

In 1983 I was attacked by a doberman.

I was living in Virginia Beach. I had started to walk out to a nearby strip mall to get a newspaper. I had not gone 20 feet when I noticed the dog loose nearby.

I went back in the house and got a container of pepper spray. This was government issued and at that time very weak. I think it was 1/10 of 1 percent pepper.

As I walked out the dog ignored me. I got the paper and was walking back. Sort of looking at the paper and had forgotten about the dog. I saw a motion and the dog was attacking but still a good 40 feet away.

I got out the spray and waited until he was only a few feet away and hit him with it. It stopped him cold. He ran off rubbing his face with his paws.

I now have several 10% sprays but have not used one at all since then.

If a dog is charging and you don’t have time to wrap anything around your arm, you can guard with one arm with the inside of the arm toward you. As soon as the dog grabs your arm you place your other arm behind it’s head and push your arms together as hard as you can. The arm in the dog’s mouth will be pushed back away from the canine teeth and the dog will gag and will be trying to get the arm out of it’s mouth. I would recommend gagging the dog for a while until it is sure it does not want to mess with you anymore.

“The only wild cat now found in Massachusetts, the bobcat (Lynx rufus) is a medium sized feline approximately twice the size of a domestic house cat.”

Where in MA?

He said to punch it in the snout since that will be right there. Use a purse, backpack or take off shirt or jacket to give it something to bite besides you. You can also kick in the ribs or wrap a jacket around your arm to prevent bite damage.

Great question, I would love to hear an answer. The places I go camping have more and more bobcat sightings with each passing year.

Feed attack with something...anything, even your weak arm and then start to gouge and strike at the attacker’s eyes. Much more sensitive than the snout or belly and eyes will be in easy reach.

“Bear spray. Interesting how wasp spray is banned for self defense but any sort of pepper spray is okay.”

Wasp spray is not effective on mammals. There are videos of people hit with wasp spray and it doesn’t do much.

Pepper spray should work but so does a knife or .45ACP.
