In a Bering Sea battle of killer whales vs. fishermen, the whales are winning

In the Bering Sea, near the edge the continental shelf, fishermen are trying to escape a predator that seems to outwit them at every turn, stripping their fishing lines and lurking behind their vessels.

The predators are pods of killer whales chasing down the halibut and black cod caught by longline fishermen. Fishermen say the whales are becoming a common sight — and problem — in recent years, as they've gone from an occasional pest to apparently targeting the fishermen's lines.

Fishermen say they can harvest 20,000 to 30,000 pounds of halibut in a single day, only to harvest next to nothing the next when a pod of killer whales recognizes their boat. The hooks will be stripped clean, longtime Bering Sea longliner Jay Hebert said in a phone interview this week. Sometimes there will be just halibut "lips" still attached to hooks — if anything at all.

Next they need to compare the intelligence of the halibut to bottom feeding Democrats like Obama. Bet those results would be suppressed as ‘fishy.’

Didn’t an Orca make a movie? I wonder if he gets residuals?
If not, he wasn’t too smart....

Made me laugh when I saw it. If I were that penguin, I would have hunkered down in the middle of the boat where those orcas couldn’t see me, but no...he jumped right up and seemed completely unafraid of them, as if he knew they wouldn’t attack him with the humans around!

Wonder how much they can get for a pound of halibut lips?

The orcas shared Sea World with each other, and now it’s closed.

I wonder if animals of different species can talk to each other. We had the tower of Babel. Also, animals aren’t fallen, just under the rules established after the flood. So could be just obeying the Lord.

Here’s another one, seal in boat.

oh, one of the signs of the end of this age is that more animals attack people.

Many, many eons ago, when there were only tribes, the Chief Ocra became sick. He needed rest so took refuge in a cove. The Indian Chief saw him and asked what he was doing there.
The Chief Ocra said he was sick. So after awhile the Medicine Man was called, he and the Ocra spoke together and found out the illness that struck the Ocra Chief. The Medicine Man then made a combination of herbs and sea vegetables and fed the Ocra for some days. The members of the tribe kept the Ocra comfortable by sprinkling him with water keeping his skin fresh. When the Ocra was healed, he called the Indian Chief and promised from that day forward, an Ocra would never kill a human. (In those days there were no captured Ocras for human entertainment.)

I would be nervous in a small boat with a bunch of orcas swimming around, but not because they might eat me...just the size disparity and they might damage the boat and put me in the water.

But I wouldn’t feel the same if I came face to face with a grizzly or a tiger in the wild.

Just the thought of griz! has dampened my desire to go to Alaska although it is on my bucket list. Israel first. Which is safer?
