The incident occurred Saturday evening when the woman fell into Silliman Creek near the Twin Lakes Trail and was subsequently swept downstream, according to the National Park Service.

Record high temperatures in the region coupled with rapidly melting snow in mountain areas is causing swift, cold and dangerous river conditions, park officials warned.

“River crossings fluctuate with temperature and time of day,” U.S. Park Ranger Leah Tobin said in a prepared statement. “Just because you are able to cross in the morning, does not mean the same crossing will be at the same level when you come back in the afternoon.”

Saturday’s drowning was the third in the park this year.

With the current heat wave upon us,, expect more accidental drownings.. that snowpack has to go somewhere and it is plenty cold long after it comes down out of the mountains.

When rivers are outlawed, only outlaws will have rivers.

Weird.
The survival instinct in humans seem to be in the process of being bred out... deliberately. Not an easy thing to do.

I think these people do believe what they see in
the movies. People can fly; bullets won't do any damage
to your body; there are psychics walking about; they can out
swim rushing torrents of water in rivers; space aliens are
wandering around on Earth; nothing bad can happen
to me.

Really. They've been brainwashed by Hollywood.
What a bunch of deluded people the 21st Century young people are.
And they are stunned when something terrible happens or when
their favorite candidate loses an election.

Big snowpack in the west this year and the rivers are high - a hot day and young people head for the water, believing they are immortal.

After a large body of moving water almost kills you, you acquire a proper level of caution. Without that experience, it is easy to underestimate the risk.

That river will henceforth be known as “sillywoman creek.”
