“What are you even talking about?
Tons of people drive prius. Not just gays and liberals.”

Nope, I think he’s right, gays & libs. Bill Nye drives one, I rest my case.

I wasn’t commenting on the source of the explosion, but the effect.

And that doesn’t even take account of Prius’ extreme longevity.

Ten year cost to own and operate:

The proof there’s no pro-Prius bias: “It would be interesting to see if those costs rise once the batteries need replacing.”

... Priuses have been around 15 years. That’s more than 10 years, the timeframe of the study. Prius batteries last longer than non-Prius cars.

Somewhat surprised no USA cars made the cut?

The Prius went on sale in Japan in 1997, US in 2000.

With over six million sold, a small battery service industry has evolved, and the cost of replacement has dropped.

2004-2009 Prius
Green Bean Battery – $1549 Installed
New Toyota Battery – $3349 Installed
2010-2015 Prius
Green Bean Battery – $1949 Installed
New Toyota Battery – $3349 Installed

If you want to get the volt meter out and dig in, much less.

A service company my daughter uses went all Prius, they drive over 50k a year! And have the 200k cars to prove it.

People are so paranoid about Prius’ battery lifespan, because it is so costly. But I had a timing belt go, and take the A/C with it in a Ford Taurus, that would have cost $1200 to repair. Timing belts on a lot of American cars just go after 8 years/120,000 miles. And how much does a new transmission cost? Priuses minimize these problems greatly. Meanwhile, many 2002 Priuses are on their first battery.

Break a timing belt on an interference engine, you will wish you you only needed to replace a Prius battery.

Just changing the plugs on a Ford triton engine.Dealers charge >$800.
Had a Ford Expedition 5.4, gave it to our son...He calls and asks if I changed the plugs? Due at 100k, now 125k.
I said just stop over and it is quick.
He said you better google it, they are trouble.
The two of us spent 10 hours, very carefully changing eight plugs! We were lucky none of the two piece plugs came apart or worse.
