Bill Cosby jury announces deadlock, judge orders deliberations continue

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - After 30 hours of deliberation in Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial, the jury announced late Thursday morning that they were deadlocked. The judge in the case told them to keep deliberating.

The sequestered jury has been deliberating since getting the case Monday, pausing a half-dozen times to revisit key evidence, including Cosby's decade-old admissions that he fondled Constand after giving her pills.

The 79-year-old star arrived at the courthouse Thursday morning for the start of yet another day of jury talks.

Judge Steven O'Neill has seemed vexed at times as the court staff struggled to answer the jury's requests. One batch of requested testimony hadn't even been transcribed yet.

When jurors asked to stop for the day Wednesday night, O'Neill was effusive with praise — encouraging their diligence as they weigh charges that could put the 79-year-old Cosby in prison for the rest of his life.

"This is an incredible jury that has just acted with incredible dignity and fidelity," O'Neill said. "I don't have any higher praise. You have taken your task so seriously."

Cosby is charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault. Each carries a maximum 10-year prison term, though the counts could be merged at sentencing if he is convicted.

The case has already helped demolish his nice-guy reputation as America's Dad.

The 79-year-old entertainer did not take the stand at his trial, but prosecutors used his deposition testimony -- given in 2005 and 2006 as part of Constand's civil suit against him -- as evidence.

Andrea Constad was from 204, I don’t think he was in his youth at 66, but there are alot of old people on this site.

“Certain member(s) of the jury refuse to believe that Dr. Huxtable could commit such a crime.”

Or here is a crazy thought....maybe he isnt guilty?

Just give everyone Jello Pudding, and tell them to go home and watch Fat Albert reruns.

Maybe they’ll acquit so that Cosby can go after the real rapist.

Lol!

Yeah, Johnny C and OJ are the only gleeful ones in the frame.

I imagine reaction for Cosby's acquittal will generally be the same. Normal people sickened... the racists joyful!

"I wouldn't be surprised if the jury is divided along racial lines (there are two black jurors and 10 whites)"

Well, if I had been on the jury, as a white person and someone who has worked as a court reporter/transcriptionist for the past 40 years (and seen numerous cases pretty much identical to this one), I would vote "Not Guilty", as the US court system doesn't have a verdict of "Not Proven".

From what I've seen of the case, the prosecution has definitely not proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. No way ... no how. As I have a great deal of what I consider to be reasonable doubt .. although I would admit that it's possible that it happened just the way she said it did .. the only choice is "Guilty" or "Not Guilty". I say, "Not proven", which equates to "Not Guilty".

A party girl went to a wealthy married mans house, popped pills with him, had sex with him, accepted gifts from him, and stayed in touch after. A year later when he didn’t make her his main girl, she calls the cops.

Yeah, id say she was a creep.

Don’t forget, at the time he was by far the wealthiest black man in Hollywood. He was an Oprah prototype when it comes to the money side of the business.

I don’t know, but they say money can make women say and do a lot of odd things. Even lie!

“It is heartrending to read of these trusting women tricked into drinking a drug and then letting him satisfy himself on them while they were too dizzy and nauseous to fight him off.”

These poor innocent “trusting” waifs. They were going over to his house or hotel room, at night, to discuss business. That’s why their agent was there with them.... oh wait.

Any Afro_Americans on jury? If so we could be dealing with jury nullification as when OJ beat a murder charge.

!.Does a deadlocked jury = Automatic Acquittal? 2. If so, how long must this be the case that no decision can be reached?

A deadlocked jury does not equal an acquittal (though oftentimes prosecutors decide not to spend the money prosecuting again if the case was that vexing to a jury).

It's entirely up to the judge to decide when they are deadlocked beyond hope.

This guy who is pro left wing has also been a critic of young black men not taking responsibility. Big mistake under the Obama administration to do that. The left wants the ghettos to collapse and the white man to be vilified for all black problems. He was set up for this fall......whether he was guilty or not (he’s guilty of something....I’m sure, but was untouchable before a few years back)

I tend to believe he is guilty. One woman, or two, or even a handful can make-up stories about a celebrity in order to extort money. There are around 100 women telling similar stories about Cosby.

I can tell you nobody in Pittsburgh wanted to be picked for this. Be sequestered in Philadelphia and then have TMZ hound you for interviews the rest of your life? No way!

I don’t think this should be allowed in our judicial system. A judge should not force a jury who volunteer their time to decide a case into going back into a room until one side or the other acquieses. This forces normally genuine people to accede to the wishes of the others in order to end the ordeal. That is no way for our system to work. It does not yield a valid decision.

Judge Steven O’Niell is wrong in demanding that the jury return until they reach a decision. I hope nobody ever yields and the judge is forced to accept a hung jury. That makes him out to be what he really is.

I think 100 women can want money from a rich guy. Big country.
