FULL TITLE: United Airlines flight bound for Italy is canceled after fuel gushes from the plane's wing as it taxied to the runway at Newark airport
A United Airlines flight bound for Italy was canceled after fuel gushed from one of its wings.
The plane was taxiing to the runway at Newark Liberty International Airport when the fuel spill occurred.
Witnesses said the fuel came from the edge of the plane's left wing. It's still unclear what caused the leak, where it originated or how much fuel was spilled.

Heck, copilot might have inadvertently activated the fuel dump. . .
Well played !
They don’t have engineers manning the flight line. That is why engineers have to design things as ‘idiot proof’ as possible.
Saw a jet from our local airport leaving a vapor trail off the tip of one wing a while back. I first thought it was just compressing humid air (outward wing of the turn) but it continued even after the plane completed it’s turn and I wondered if it might have been a fuel leak.
!!!
They just might have an app for that! Does one drive or fly a submarine? If you steer your car why do we say drive? Why do we park in the driveway? How does one get into a driveway if we park in it and not on it? and drive on the parkway but not in the parkway?
*snort*
“RING” shot you moron. (says Ted Cruz)
They used to have flight engineers.
The pilots can’t see $HIT! Have the airlines not heard of cameras? (GoPro).
My Subaru has a Great camera and video screen when in reverse. I’m sure a multi million dollar airplane could have a couple of those.
LOL
That's a classic right there, I tell ya.
Try and get that past the unions, and the FAA. IT WOULD TAKE DECADES.
As a pilot and aircraft owner since 1978, I can assure you that short of a bird strike which peeled back the skin off a wing, I am always managing the cockpit five miles forward. I never really concerned myself with in flight wings analysis. A loss of fuel appears on instruments quickly.
Why does your nose run and your feet smell?
Why fly when you can drive?
If you absolutely have to get there on time, drive.
Or,..”If you have time to spare, go by air.”
That exact thing happened to me once on a flight from Zurich to Atlanta in 2001. Scary as hell...................
Driving to Italy from Newark will take a while..................
UA used to run a 747SP from ORD to HKG. They’d fill it until it came out the overflow.
CLT/SFO, PNE/GRB, and endless STARS and SID’S into National before it changed. Owned WS76.
Had a flight school roomy who’s father did SFO to HNL back in the DC3 days. He now is 747 and A320. I went into other things to keep a family.
