Sam Houston statue in Hermann Park causing controversy
Click2Houston ^ | May 26, 2017 | Brandon Walker

HOUSTON - The starting point was a Facebook post by a group called Texas Antifa.

The post alleges the Sam Houston Memorial's so-called demise will begin on June 10.

Why remove it?

Other posts by the group explain its stance.

"Texans agree the disgusting idols of America's dark days of slavery must be removed to bring internal peace to our country."

If they succeed with this, next they will demand that the City be renamed Santa Ana or Vera Cruz Del Norte or something.

Sam Houston is part of History before the Revolution which Antifa et all believe to be in progress.Leftists are like Moslems. There is no truth, fact, nor is there Natural Law supporting their delusions. History is the record of those things and history before themselves must be eradicated and replaced with a pamphlet that describes the world pre Revolution as the revolting group would have it known.

> Sam Houston was pro Union and against secession. <

On the other hand, he was a white guy who turned away a large group of Mexicans. Bottom line: His statue has to go.

When a Revolution succeeds, the fanatics who made the revolution are the first to go in the cellars or against the wall. When the Revolution is done, they are dangerous to the new rulers. They have served their purpose and like fish that has stood too long on the counter, have to be wrapped and disposed of.

Didn’t Sam Houston speak Cherokee, and wasn’t he baptized in water after his confession of faith, and wanted his wallet to be submersed in the water to be cleansed as well....?

I understand their concerns about reminders of slavery and how a statue of, say, Robert E. Lee might cause them to be reminded of the agony. I agree with them on that.

But they are missing something important. There are other reminders of slavery that should also be removed. Martin Luther King was one of the leaders in the fight against the Democrat’s Jim Crow laws and the segregation they enforced. But that reminds anyone that knows this of the reality of segregation, which was imposed by the Democrats when the Union took away their slaves! As a constant reminder of slavery and Jim Crow the statues of Martin Luther King should be removed, the schools named after him should be renamed to something that won’t bring slavery to the mind all the time and streets named after him should be also renamed.

As well, a statue that mentions Crispus Attucks, a slave who fought for freedom in the American Revolution triggered me because he was a slave. The agonies of slavery surged back into my mind! He thus reminds of daily of that evil institution. Therefore, the statue should be removed.

There are lots more cases but I think all will recognize the need to do a thorough cleansing of the land for these offensive statues and reminders of a great sin in America’s past!

Antifa needs to be crushed. Literally, physically crushed.

Or, if we don’t want to go that far, people who oppose them need to stand up to them, and those in authority need to learn how to say, “No.” Let them throw their tantrums and, if they get out of hand, then resort to my first proposal.

What person in their right mind wants to live in a country where Antifa numbskulls have any say?

“...They smell the blood in the water....”

Yeah. Their’s. IF this is pushed too far, there will be “blood in the water”...literally.
I don’t believe Texans are in any mood to put up with these twink commie POSs.

What gets me about the lefties is that they scream to have buildings renamed and statues torn down that honor people from the 1800s, but part and parcel back the Democratic Party. The worst behavior of that party arguably happened after the Civil war and continues for the next 100 years. If they want to destroy confederate history they need to destroy the party associated with it, as well.

For sure Texas will roll over on this. For. Sure.

Articles like this always bring out the irrational Texas haters. Every. Single. Time.

I agree. Take down that statue of a Unionist and put up a monument to Nathan Bedford Forrest, instead.

That would show those Yankees up in Washington.

That thing is beautiful. You can see it for about 5 miles before you get to Huntsville. Greg Abbott better get on the ball and do like Alabama and make it against the law to remove Confederate statues. It can be done. Someone said that they want the statue removed in Hermann Park because he won Texas from Mexico. Too bad, so sad.....screw ‘em.
