Geert Wilders on Trump speech: 'Islam is the problem'
WND ^ | May 22, 2017 | Art Moore

Posted on 05/23/2017 6:48:15 AM PDT by Ray76

Wilders explained why he believes the definition of the global threat articulated by President Trump in his historic speech Sunday in Saudi Arabia is off the mark.

“Islam is the problem,” said Wilders, the leader of the Party for Freedom, now the country’s second largest in Parliament.

“We can only deal with [the threat] if we first face the truth, [which] might not be too politically correct, but still is the truth, and that is that Islam — and not Islamism or radical Islam, but Islam — is an evil ideology like communism or fascism that has no place in a free society,” he told WND.

Wilders applauded Trump for frankly recognizing the “fight between good and evil” engulfing the West, but the Dutchman insisted the evil isn’t confined to certain people within the community of Islam.

“It’s not that we have two different kinds of Islam,” he said.

“I acknowledge the fact that we have two kinds of people. There are moderate Muslims and non-moderate Muslims. But there is really only one Islam, and this is the Islam of the life of Muhammad, of the Quran, of the Hadiths, of the Sunnah.”

Awash in cultural relativism, he said, establishment politicians and academics “fool the people by saying that all cultures are equal.”

“I am not ashamed to say that our culture is far better than the Islamic culture, which is a culture of barbarism,” he said. “We should be honest and speak about the truth, and this, unfortunately, is the truth.”

Wilders argues it’s “impossible for the ideology of Islam to assimilate in a free society.”

“People can. Ideology cannot.”

Read post 14. Muslim countries in the 1950s 1960s were modern. You can see it in pictures. Something changed - what? That is the question that needs to be answered.

Trump did not campaign on arming moslems to the teeth.

Trump leads a nation, Wilders can push his philosophy which I may well agree with but unfortunately, there are other issues at play here.

RE: Something changed - what?

The Madrasas took over and started to tell the Muslims to take their faith seriously, that’s what.

The radicalism of a Muslim is directly proportional to how seriously he takes his faith.

This is purely from my own observations from memory, but the Muslims were angry at the US for their financial support of Israel (weapons made in the USA as aid) while our oil companies were paying approximately $3 per barrel for their oil. It wasn't too hard for the Muslims to feel like they were "victims". The Americans were the ones "victimizing" them.

Why arm our enemy?

I agree with that; this is what Rand Paul has been discussing, weapons shipments to Saudi Arabia.

And then, does that shut off others who are selling to Saudi Arabia? Canada and UK are I know. Would doing such push them to Russia's orbit of friends? Russia sells arms to Muslim nations.

And where does it end? Stop selling to Jordan, Iraq and so on? There are pragmatic issues at stake here. That's all I am saying.

It should be noted that American, British, and Dutch companies explored for oil and developed the industry throughout the region.

The psychological term I was looking for is COGNITIVE DISSONANCE.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is prevalent in Western leaders, too.
They really do want to believe that there can be a moderate Islam that is peaceful in the face of all historical evidence and all of the “holy” scriptures of Islam.
Correct, the Saudis started spending large amounts of money to spread Wahabbi Islam by building madrassas everywhere in the Islamic world.
The Saudis are the one country most responsible for the resurgence of fundamentalist Islam.
There are 1.5 BILLION Muslims. Wilders’ approach simply cannot work, Islam desperately needs a reformation. Obama denied this and told them it was all the fault of Islamophobia and the Crusades. Trump took them on DIRECTLY, demanding “Drive them out!” THAT is the way to do it.
Correct, the Saudis started spending large amounts of money to spread Wahabbi Islam by building madrassas everywhere in the Islamic world.
Not only in the Islamic world. They're cropping up everywhere in the western world with a sizeable Muslim population, making sure that Muslim immigrants and their children don't assimilate, westernize, or secularize when in Europe or the US.
The Saudis are the one country most responsible for the resurgence of fundamentalist Islam.
Which is why if you want to pick a positive example of a moderate Muslim government that combats fanaticism, Saudi Arabia is probably the worst place to do it. The Saudis have done more to promote Islamism around the world than any other country.
It can not be reformed, it would require renouncing the words of its founder.
As a general comment, yes, the main culprit here in my opinion, is the radical Islamic teaching coming out of Saudi Arabia; but there is probably some blame to the Muslim Brotherhood too.
Then, we can say “Islam then and now” but Arabs helped the Nazis apparently, the Turks had their genocide one hundred years ago, there was genocide in Bangladesh with “militant Islamic militias” traveling around in the early ‘70s, Israel has been dealing with this stuff for decades so, as usual, it is a bit complex.
Islam as an ideology is rotten to the core.
It was made that way by their murderous pedophile prophet.
It cannot be reformed.
Death awaits all who try by the command of their prophet.
Know Islam, No Peace - No Islam, Know Peace
You raise an interesting question here.
I read somewhere, now forget where, that the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, when here in the US for some college coursework, was scandalized by the way women and men interacted with each other at a school dance (remember those?). This, according to what I read, was one of the reasons for his radicalization.
IIRC, and I might not, this same source claimed that the reason he was scandalized was because no one at the dance talked to him/tried to interact with him. He was just invited as some trophy in other words.
Anyway very interesting if true. I’m not sure this even fits in your timeline (I think the MB was founded earlier in the last century). But if true an interesting glimpse into how such radicalization such hatred starts. From some of the smallest things, things we may consider even trivial. Kind of puts even more importance on acting like a Christian every day, with whoever you meet.
Never can know the consequences. Might even be global.
“Drive them out” is the mistake. That’s like saying to a German, “drive Germans out”. Like nazism, islam is the problem. The ideology is the problem. It should be “drive islam out”.
The ideology has enveloped and destroyed their societies, which previously were productive. They must separate their national identity from the ideology.
