As a matter of trivia, Willy was what Bull Terriers originally looked like.

Years of show ring breeding, with its mania for extremes, gave us the modern skull of Bullies, like this one

[pinging Tristan so my face can be rubbed in the fact that *I* do not have a Bully, too] :D

Some guys would disagree.

Google Pit Bull police dog.

They're everywhere and they excel at their jobs, thanks to their high intelligence and trainability.

Want an intelligent dog, get a poodle. Want a reliable, intelligent dog with the ultimate bite force, get a GSD.

The american pit pull has been bred to insanity. It’s practically a predatory breed.

Is it not?

I *love* their faces.

They always seem to have a smile and a twinkling glee in their eyes.

Thank you ransomnote for trying to educate those in denial these dogs pose, but just like those that cheer on muslim ‘immigration’ some people just have a deathwish.

Pardon me?

What has that to do with “GSD ultimate bite force”?

Chihuahua’s?

I have one. Nice dog, doesn’t do much, a bit independent but not a trouble maker.

I had a min pin years ago. Loyal to a fault, an 8 pounder. I always said that if that min pin was 40 pounds it would be dangerous. Terriors are like that.

I think you and I are different, Salamander. We get out dog experience with Dobermans which, although also large and even more scary looking, are a very different breed. I think there is a weight threshold, below which, who cares. Like the freezer with the dachshund. When that dog is off his rocker, who cares. Ankle biter. I had an 80 lb Walker that snarled at me once. I picked him up by the chest skin and held him at eye level against the wall eye to eye for a while. The rest of his life he never snarled at me again.

My male Doberman is 110-120 lbs. I could no more pick him up like that than jump the moon. Good thing, he is the sweetest dog I have ever known. I have seen him bark at strangers and stop them (as in “You are under arrest!”) but he would not have bit them. Granted, they did not know that. Once I introduce him to someone they are OK, part of the pack.

There is no question, breeds have complex reflexes bred in. I was skeptical myself, once. Doberman HATE water, as you know. Labs love it. Go figure. Retrievers will fetch until the crack of doom. My Walker, if you threw something, he would just look at you like “Why did you do that?” I have no experience with Pit Bulls but am willing to concede, there is a weight/size threshold beyond which, a crazy dog becomes a problem. I think that is just undeniable. Add size, and crazy, to a breed with violent reflexes, it is just a volatile combination, perhaps.

I have to admit my Macaws are probably more vicious killers than my Dobies. My male Macaw was down on something and pissed and in trouble so I put my arm down for him to climb up. He was pissed so he sunk his beak into my forearm about halfway down. Thing is he curved that beak around my Ulna and the tip magicall got into my radial artery. The whole family freaked (including me) as my arm began spraying blood around the room. LOL. SInce I am a doctor it was sort of an “out of body experience”. It really didn’t hurt much and I knew it wasn’t dangerous as direct pressure stopped it right away. Fun times.
