French Election: American Conservatives Should Support Macron

"Second, where Le Pen fetishizes national division, Macron speaks of patriotism joined to opportunity. Even as words alone, this is a political narrative that France desperately needs. As Andrew Hussey explains in his 2014 book, The French Intifada, many young French Muslims feel that their citizenry exists on paper only — that when it comes to education, opportunity, and respect, their country has no interest in them. American conservatives should be alarmed by that sentiment. The glory of American patriotism is its combination of shared opportunity and personal responsibility. Indeed, American Muslims’ patriotism is proof that Le Pen is wrong. It shows that where expectations are matched to opportunity, nationalism can be inclusive."

Macron is pro-mooselimb and anti-France, I would never ever support someone who sells out his own country - the word is TRAITOR. There was a brief time when the French people knew what do with traitors - but their gene pool was too depleted during WWI and WWII.

I disagree.
Le Pen is the only one who understands the threat of Islam.

As they say in French, Boulsheet! Le Pen is against bringing in more muzzies. That’s all that matters for France.

Indeed, American Muslims’ patriotism is proof that Le Pen is wrong.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This writer is either delusional or a propagandist.
Muslims cannot be patriotic Americans.
Their religion commands them to see sharia replace the Constitution.
This is why I stopped subscribing to and reading National Review years ago.
Are they saying conservatives should be more like liberals? I haven’t seen too much “American Muslims’ patriotism”. Usually, either you hear nothing at all from them (which is strange), or you outright support for Sharia law (which is anything but patriotic). By being more liberals, that obviously means being more blind to evil.
French Election: American Conservatives Should Support Macron
Whichever one is more opposed to Muslims coming into their country is the one we should be supporting.
*THAT* is from whence the eventual bloodshed will come.
B.S.
“The glory of American patriotism is its combination of shared opportunity and personal responsibility.”
Someone remind the National Review that France is not the U.S. and the French do not need, for their sovereign interests, to try to be like the U.S., as in a “melting” pot. It would not be France.
Wanting and wanting to keep a national identity is not a point of dissonance with Conservatism.
For the same reason as France - excessive immigration of certain blocks - the U.S. is losing its own melting point identity and becoming disparate ethnic factions each seeking its group interest. Excessive immigration in just 20 years has broken the usual assimilation of earlier decades.
France and the U.S. are in the same boat, but the solution for France is not to try to look like the U.S., past, present or future - it wouldn’t be France.
The National Review opinion on this is a “progressives” view, not a Conservative view.
Can't be said too many times. Haven't read the National Review for a decade. The legacy of Buckley has been completely destroyed.
This is a French election. Root for who you want, send $$ if it’s burning a hole in your pocket, but honestly - they have a problem that only they can solve.
Is this the same National Review that published an entire issue attacking then-candidate Trump? Every single article? THAT National Review?
And we should pay attention to them why? I think not.
